Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Families,
Thank you Sunset Lake for a great year! With seven new teachers, several new support staff and a new principal there were lots of changes that took place. We thank you for your support and patience this year as we worked through some of our new systems.
As we move into the summer months we wanted to share out our goals that we will be working towards, beginning 2016-17 school year:
- Implementing The Leader in Me process (all staff trained in 7 Habits)
- Implementing a new English Language Arts Curriculum (Ready Gen)
- Finding more ways to differentiate in the classroom to meet students at ALL levels
- Looking at ways to beautify our Sunset Lake building and grounds
- Creating systems to help improve our playground behaviors
- Building more student leadership roles and student led committees
I am so proud to call myself the Sunset Lake Elementary Principal. Our staff works each and everyday for your children and we love our jobs!
We hope you have a joyous summer filled with lots of family R & R!

Barnes and Noble Reading Program
Starting on May 17th, the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program marks its twentieth anniversary celebrating the power of books to expand children’s horizons. We’re partnering with educators like you to inspire readers in the first through sixth grades to have a summer filled with reading and to earn a FREE book!
We’re excited to introduce our Triathlon theme, which encourages students to stay in reading shape throughout the summer by actively pursuing their interest in books of their own choosing, strengthening their abilities, and stretching their imaginations along the way. Whether they are staying home or traveling, students can pick the books they want to read and proceed at their own pace.
You’ll find downloadable versions of the classroom kit and the Summer Reading Triathlon Journal online at BN.COM/summerreading.
Enjoy your vacation—–but first invite your students to have fun and earn a FREE book as they get ready to enjoy our Summer Reading Triathlon.

The job is not always a fun one and it calls for extra responsibility with The students were selected from their applications and record of positive behavior choices. Mrs. Getsinger lead the students through their training and are confident that these leaders will help make our school an even more positive and safe place to learn!
