Get to Know Kristen Kennedy Anderson
Hello! My name is Kristen Kennedy Anderson. I respond to all things but go by Ms. Kennedy. I am married my sweet husband, Scott, and have two beautiful children: Genevieve (3), Leif (1), and we will welcome our third in February. They truly fill up my cup. I enjoy every moment I can with them. We enjoy spending time at home, taking walks to the park, discovering a new place and laughing. We love summer and the ability to be in the water. We are looking forward to new adventures now that Leif is more mobile.
I am a product of DMPS. I attended Greenwood Elementary, Callanan and Roosevelt High School. I attended University of Northern Iowa for undergrad. After I graduated, I went to Germany for 6 months. I worked at Landstuhl Child Development Center with infants to 5-year-olds. I love every minute of my time overseas.
After all my travels, I knew I wanted to end up in DMPS. I taught 7th grade math and science at Harding for 6 years. Moved into leadership at Goodrell Middle School as their Vice Principal for two years and my last three years were at Merrill Middle School as an Associate Principal. I am truly grateful for all the people I met along the way and experiences and opportunities middle school provided me.
I have truly loved each one of my experiences in middle school and learning how middle school brains operate. An area that I feel strongly about is the development of social emotional awareness in kids. With this, I looked back to how much I loved my time working with primary aged kids. As we know, the pandemic has done a number on our education system. Supporting our youngest minds with learning and figuring out how to navigate school is a challenge I welcome.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of your community. I am truly looking forward to meeting everyone!
OneRun
The 3rd annual District-wide OneRun fundraiser will be held at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden on Saturday, September 24th, with check-in between 8:00-8:45 a.m. The event is a 2-mile fun run/walk with an option to cheer on the sidelines as a supporter! Registration is free for everyone; participation is what will count.
Event fees will be paid by corporate and individual sponsors. Once participation totals are tallied, the money raised will be sent directly to the schools. Each participant may designate one school. The more participants and donations, the more money to the schools!
