A Message from the Director
Parents and Students,
I spent the past two days with 42 of our juniors and seniors visiting universities in Texas and Oklahoma. Our students were able to see the difference between large universities and small universities and start to decide which is the best fit for them. Thank you Robin Young for planning a trip that gave CA students an opportunity to vision their next step. On March 20, all CA students will be visiting universities around the metroplex to learn about the many different fields of study right in our own backyard.
This Friday CA will host a Career Lab Day with the focus on the medical field. 36 students will have the opportunity to learn from a doctor or nurse practitioner or a physical therapist! We will be hosting Career Labs for engineering, marketing and other fields in the spring semester!
Finally, we are accepting applications until January 17 for the 2020/2021 school year. If you have a GCISD 8th grade friend or relative, please encourage them to apply. We already have over 30 applications and the window just opened on November 1!
Exciting times at Collegiate Academy! Good things are happening! Find your place and get involved!

SAT School Day for Juniors: March 4
We have just learned that we will be offering the SAT on March 4 to all juniors and the best part is that it will be free and on campus!
Higher SAT scores lead to more scholarship opportunities, and it's time to begin preparing. Questions about SAT prep opportunities? Ask a Pathways teacher.
Kickin' it with Kindness/Leader-Con
Collegiate Academy will host our Kickin' It with Kindness day on Nov. 22 and all Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors will be participating. This Kickin' It event is a fun time for students, and we get to support our community at the same time.
For seniors who will not be participating in the Kickin' It event on Nov. 22, TCC is hosting a leadership seminar, and you are encouraged to attend. Learn more and sign up at http://bit.ly/LEADERCON-NE.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Who wants to go to Europe? Spring Break 2021 We're going to London and Paris!
For three years we've taken a trip to Europe over Spring Break and we've seen some incredible places. We've gone to England, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Greece and now we're going back to England and France for a once in a lifetime learning opportunity! If you want to come to an informational meeting and hear more about the trip and what it will look like we will be meeting in the common area of Collegiate Academy at 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, November 19th. Email Mr. Cavanagh if you're interested in receiving more information but are unable to attend the meeting.
SOS Presentation
Earlier in the school year a form was sent out in the Phoenix News that discussed a seminar that we will be leading next week over the signs of suicide. That form was an opt out form and will be added to this newsletter as well if you do NOT want your student to participate in that seminar. We will be going over the information on Wednesday morning so the opt out forms will be due no later than Tuesday morning.
Semester Coming to a Close
As the semester comes to a close, frustration and stress levels will likely be at an all-time high. If anyone needs to set up a time to discuss grades or emotions during this time please send Mr. Cavanagh an email so that we can get through this together! We only have a month until the end of the semester so let's finish strong!

TSI Testing Policy
Next week students who have not yet passed all 3 TSI tests will receive a hard copy of the TSI Testing policy for the 2019-2020 school. This policy will be distributed in the Pathways classes. We are asking parents and guardians to please review the hard copy of the testing policy with their student, sign it, and send it back to school with your student. Signed policies may be given to your student’s Pathways teacher. The policy will help students focus on the tests that they need at different stages of their associate degree. If you have any questions about your student’s progress in completing the Reading, Writing, or Math TSI test, please email Kristinia Haney at kristinia.haney@gcisd.net

Notes from the Attendance office:
Contact Amy Silva-Adams for Attendance questions.

If a student must be absent from school a parent/guardian should call attendance or send an email each day to report the absence. I will also accept a note from the parent/guardian the day the student returns to school.
If a student is missing for a doctor's appointment, it is very important to always get a note from the doctor and present it when signing into school or returning the following day. You or your physician may email the doctor's note directly to me.
