Connecting with Each Other
CONNECTING WITH OUR LEARNING
Here is a link full of resources as we embark on virtual learning, please feel free to add to this list- with an explanation about the site to share with everyone.
As we learn more about the collaborative process together, we can use a process for identifying essential learning outcomes.
Creative and fun ways to engage our students in Virtual Learning
This is the video we watched on Friday about Joy.
Here are the 4 short readings about joy we discussed on Friday: Community, Gratitude, Play, and Sense of Wonder. Please feel free to try to use these through your virtual learning

Connecting with Our Future
Our Purpose
Our school goal: “During the 2019-2020 school year, Washington Middle School will connect with others, connect to our own learning and connect to our future. Our connectedness will be measured by smiles, celebrations, feedback and learning targets.”
Time to Master Our Process
Autonomy
This week we would like to celebrate the 7th grade Science content team. Carl Black and Zach Schacht have been working with the autonomy of a professional collaborative team focused on student learning in a new partnership with a new curriculum.
Here are some highlights:
As the team shifts to a new chemistry unit, they are working to make the learning more concrete in a step by step manner.
This has resulted in a new way to collect evidence of learning - they are creating and sharing google forms for common assessments
They discovered the challenges of a free searchable curriculum and learned to write assessment prompts that cannot be searched by students
The team has learned to be clear about the process with students. For each learning experience, they ask the students to :
Know the process
Know the materials
Clearly understand the steps
Understand the questions and keep them in mind when following the process
The team has started rating the Next Generation Science Standards
For each standard that connects to the essential skills of the class, students are asked to apply the essential skill to the NGSS standard
The team reports making the most of the time to meet
In the past, there were not common preps or other time set aside to accomplish the goals :
Focusing on the essential skills for student learning
Developing common assessments
Comparing the results of common assessments and making instructional decisions about the results
Here is a look at the new location for the 7th Grade Science content team
Thank you for joining together to celebrate the work that Carl and Zach have done to make 7th grade Science come alive for every learner and to make their team all about student learning.
