Catholic Education Foundation for Tuition Assistance
As we begin a new year, I want to encourage each of you to invite more families to join the Catholic school experience than ever before. Last year with your encouragement and with the help of the CEF we were able to achieve record-breaking enrollment. We have not stopped growing and with your help we expect our enrollment to once again grow in 2017. To any family who yearns for a Catholic education for their children but cannot afford it, The Answer is YES!
The 2017-18 FACTs management application is available online at www.ceflou.org. This is the only way to apply for aid this year. The completed application, along with the $25 fee, should be submitted on or before March 15, 2017.
We are sending an instructional flyer to every St. Paul family. Asking for tuition assistance is a very private family decision. Often families who are experiencing difficulty are reluctant to take the steps needed to request assistance but let me assure you if this is the case the answer will be “Yes” to assistance.
For the past two years, every single family who applied to the Catholic Education Foundation for tuition assistance – and demonstrated a financial need – earned an award, 100%! Last year with the help of the CEF, need-based to tuition discounts, archdiocese voucher fund and school choice St. Paul families were awarded $204,256 in assistance!
Instead of talking yourself out of a Catholic education for your children, shouldn’t you consider reaching out to the Catholic Education Foundation and provide a better path for both your children and your family?
- NOW IS THE TIME for more families to join our storied Catholic school community with 106 years of tradition.

Speak Up Be Safe Program
"Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe" is a research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum for Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. It helps children and teens learn the skills to prevent or interrupt cycles of neglect, bullying, and child abuse—physical, emotional, and sexual. The program uses an ecological approach to prevention education by providing materials to engage parents and caregivers, teachers, school administrators, and community stakeholders.
- In addition to increasing children’s ability to recognize unsafe situations or abusive behaviors and building resistance skills, lessons focus on helping children build a responsive safety network with peers and adults that the child identifies as safe.
- Focused on enhancing a child’s overall sense of confidence.
- "Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe" is a child-focused, school-based curriculum designed to build safety skills within the child while addressing today’s societal risks, such as bullying and Internet safety. The program focuses on enhancing the child’s overall sense of confidence with regard to safety and promotes respect for self and peers that can be applied to general as well as potentially harmful situations.
- The overarching goal of this curriculum is always to provide children with the skills to identify and be able to approach a safe adult should they ever be in a situation in which they are unsure if they are safe.
PreK-2nd Grade
- A primary focus at the earliest age groups is to shift the responsibility for child abuse and neglect prevention away from children and onto the adults in their lives. Children learn basic concepts around personal safety and how to identify safe adults.
- Lessons emphasize that adults are responsible for child safety, but by learning and using a few key safety rules, children can help those adults keep them safe. Children learn how to recognize potentially unsafe situations, how to identify safe adults, and how to talk about feeling unsafe.
- While adults continue to be responsible for child safety, lessons acknowledge the growing responsibilities and privileges of children in this age group and the new opportunities for potentially unsafe situations. Children learn how to recognize potential risks as well as resistance strategies that can be used until they can talk to a safe adult.

Penny War-Christmas 2016
Throughout the week, the school had a Change War! Each class had 2 buckets outside their classroom; one for silver change and the other for pennies. Silver helped each class add up to collect the most money, but pennies were deducted from each class total.
Classes were allowed add pennies to other class buckets in order to decrease their totals. Totals can be seen below,
The class with the highest total earned either a donut, ice cream, or pizza party.
All money brought in will go to United Cerebral Palsy Foundation to help children with cerebral palsy. We chose this foundation in honor of Olivia Breanne Wathen, a special needs sister of 8th grader Abigail Toebbe, who passed away in October.
Congratulations 4th Grade!

Sports
Spring and Summer Sports Signups are Underway!
SPECIAL NOTE: St. Paul partners with Notre Dame Academy. We always hope to have enough participants for every sport on our own, but if we don’t, we will contact Notre Dame to see if we can combine students to create a team. In rare cases, our students may participate with a different school. The Sports Committee will handle the coordination and notify the signed up students of which school they can join for a particular sport. Recruiting is not allowed and a student may not participate with a different school without approval from the Sports Committee. If an athlete signs up to play for St. Paul and there are not enough participants to form our own team the athlete is NOT required to play for another school; they can choose to not participate at all. However, only students who sign up with St. Paul will be offered the opportunity to play for another school.
