2022 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT SURVEY - PARENTS AND CARERS (PACS)
In partnership with CEWA and National School Improvement Partnerships (NSI), we are once again conducting our parent and children survey. This survey is conducted every two years and due to COVID was last done in 2019. Many of the fantastic initiatives now in operation are a result of the feedback received from our stakeholders back in 2019.
To incentivise parents to take 15mins and complete the survey, we are raffling off three gift vouchers which will be drawn randomly. Every parent who completes the survey will go into the draw to receive one of three vouchers. To complete the survey visit this link:
https://www.nsipartnerships.com.au
Click: Start Questionnaire
Enter Code: SFPACS
The survey closes on 26th May and the three randomly drawn raffle winners will be announced in the following newsletter. The prizes are gift vouchers for The Beach House in Eden Beach.
1st Prize: $75 Voucher
2nd Prize: $50 Voucher
3rd Prize: $25 Voucher
Your feedback helps shape the direction of our school so please take 15min to complete the survey - remember, you gotta be in it to win it! More information about data privacy is attached below.
NAPLAN 2022
Next week, our Year 3 and 5 children will be undertaking the annual National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy. Every year there is much discussion around standardised testing and the 'one size fits all' application of the written tests. Regardless of the arguments for or against, it is a mandated education requirement and our children have been prepared as best possible given the recent circumstances. I encourage parents to view this assessment as one of many the children sit in class and one aspect of how we view their progress in learning. It provides a snapshot of their learning journey at a particular moment in time and provides feedback to us as a school as to where we need to focus our teaching and learning efforts. There is a two-week period of testing so if your child is away, they will be given the opportunity to sit the test on another day.
Writing: Tuesday
Reading & Language Conventions: Wednesday
Numeracy: Thursday
OPERATING GUIDELINES - BASELINE SETTINGS (Parent Info)
As per the WA Health Minister's announcement, we are now operating under 'Baseline Settings'. This was outlined in last week's COVID Update #13. A summary for parents has been attached at the bottom of this email.
WINTER UNIFORM
The two week transition period for Winter uniforms has now concluded. From Monday 9th May, all children will be expected to be in full winter uniform. If you are unsure about the uniform requirements, please refer to the attachment below.
MOTHER'S DAY OPEN CLASSROOMS - FREE COFFEE
As a muted Mother's Day celebration, in lieu of our normal breakfast, we will be opening all classrooms tomorrow from 8:20am - 8:50am for mother's (and mother figures) to come in and do a small activity with their child. In the afternoon, the Year 4's will present their Mother's Day themed assembly in front of the whole school. We will also have the opportunity to conduct the Mother's Day raffle which will be very exciting! The Year 4 Assembly and Mother's Day Raffle draw will be streamed via this link for those parents unable to attend:
Thanks to the support of 115 Collective, any mothers' who attend the open classrooms tomorrow will be welcomed with a FREE Coffee Voucher valid at 115 Collective, 859 Connolly Drive. Given we were unable to welcome our mum's with breakfast, we hope you enjoy this small token of appreciation for everything you do for the children in our community. A huge thanks to 115 Collective for supporting this initiative!
Lastly, a special thanks to all the volunteers who assisted on the Mother's Day Stall this year - it was another raging success! A big thanks also to the P&F for coordinating.
Wishing all the mother figures in your lives a wonderful day on Sunday. Whilst every day should be treated like Mother's Day, we hope you have a special day filled with love, laughter and lots of hugs!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
Best wishes

Principal

May - Month of Mary
Why do we pray the rosary in May?
May is the month when Catholics show their devotion to Our Lady, Jesus' blessed mother. We pray the Rosary using beads to count how many prayers have been said. Pope Francis asks that we pray the Rosary to ask Our Lady to intercede for us during these difficult times.
The tradition of dedicating the month of May to Mary, came about in the 13th century. The actual reason is the fact that this month is the time when spring is at the height of its beauty. Spring is also connected with nature renewing itself.
Mayflower Mass - Sunday 29th May (9am)
All families are invited to join with staff and the Parish at the annual Mayflower Mass at St Andrew's Church, Clarkson on Sunday 29th May at 9am. Children can wear free dress. A sausage sizzle will be provided after the Mass.
Gold Coin Fundraiser for the Ukraine
