Mrs. Myerson's Classroom News - Week of January 18th
A Note from Mrs. Myerson
This week students will have 14 new spelling/sight words to identify and memorize. We are still assessing on Friday so please work with your child on these words, as some are challenging! This will now be the normal amount of words that students will be expected to learn each week.
Teacher Tip: Learning Sight Words
*Sight Word recognition in isolation should transfer to reading sight words in text. This practice will help your child make the connection between sight words and their meaning...
- Sight Words in Context: Create or find text with several of the sight words your child needs to practice. With your child, read each sentence, then have him or her circle or highlight the sight words with crayon or marker.
- Timed readings: Prepare a list of sight words and set the time for 1 minute (or any amount of time you see fit). See how many your child can read in that amount of time. It will soon become sort of a competition for your child to read more and more words in that time span.
Essential Question: What kinds of plants and animals can you find in the ocean?
Spelling Words: that, then, this, this, them, with, bath
