This month we are focusing on the theme of respectful. Other words that mean respectful are to show respect, be polite and give compliments. Our definition is to act in a way that shows you care about how your actions impact others. Classes are having discussions about being respectful and making connections to our otter expectation of show respect.

This month we are having a classroom and grade level competition to see to what class and grade level can earn the most "show respect" splash tickets. Every week we will let you know the top 3 classes and grade levels.

Next month's theme: Perseverance

• 5th grade readers and writers in Ms. Flynn's class engaged writing a summary of a nonfiction text. Students identified a main idea from a text and selected key details. Students then used a rubric to self-assess their summary.
• 3rd grade mathematicians in Mrs. Waage's class creating a number line with fractions less than one and locating fractions on a number line. Students made a choice to show their understanding folding and labeling sentence strips or labeling with a floor model.
• 4th and 5th grade writers in Ms. Ragan's class focusing on their animal expository report using a checklist to edit and revise their writing with a peer.

The Peninsula School District invites everyone in the community to join us in reaching our goal to read 1 million minutes by the last day of school, June 21, 2023.

Pen Light and the Peninsula School District have collaborated to launch a ‘minutes read’ collection webpage as part of Peninsula Reads. Peninsula Reads is a community-wide effort to promote literacy development in young children by engaging community members of all ages in activities that support the importance of early literacy. When you’ve completed your reading activity, simply sign in and record how many minutes you read! Use this tool to log your reading minutes.

For students living outside the boundaries of the Peninsula School District, who wish to attend a school in Peninsula School District, CHOICE Transfer Requests for the 2023-2024 school year will be considered beginning May 1st through May 31st . Parents/Guardians will be notified within 45 days of May 31st if the request has been accepted or denied.

To become a non-resident student in the Peninsula School District, parents must complete a CHOICE Transfer Request through the WA State CHOICE Transfer Request Portal.

Just a reminder: CHOICE Transfer requests must be renewed annually. Students

currently on a transfer for the 2022-2023 school year, that wish to continue the transfer

for the 2023-2024 school year must also submit a CHOICE Transfer Request, through

the WA State Portal, no later than May 31st.

Additionally, due to the rapid growth in Gig Harbor North, Harbor Ridge Middle School will not

be accepting any new 2023-2024 Out of District CHOICE transfer requests. To obtain a release from Peninsula School District, to enroll in a program located in another

school district, parents need to complete a CHOICE Transfer Request through the

WA State CHOICE Transfer Request Portal.

3140p gives the guidelines for CHOICE Transfer Requests.
