Rhino Weekly Connection

3.13.23

Note from Interim Principal Mrs. Smetzer!

Hello Ryan Families!

While great for the evening light, the time change did make some of our Rhinos particularly tired this morning. Hope you are able to get a little extra rest tonight!

This past week has been a great one here at Ryan. Our 4th graders went to AmeriTowne on Friday, where they engaged in hands-on learning experiences about banking, business, and team work. They have been preparing and planning for this field trip for quite awhile, and the excitement was palpable! They had fun, did a great job, and reported that it was even better than expected.

Ryan 5th graders participated in Socratic seminars last week. It was great to see students practicing their listening and speaking skills by taking turns, responding to others' comments, and respectfully agreeing and disagreeing.

This morning, our 2nd graders were hard at work writing poetry with metaphors. It is a tricky concept to move past the simile and into metaphors, comparing two things without using the words "like" or "as." Our kiddos helped each other out and worked together to really see and imagine the comparisons.

Thank you for being our partners in education!

Explore the Solar System with University of Colorado Assistant Professor (and Ryan Parent!) Dr. David Malaspina, THIS Thursday, March 16, 2023, 5-6:30pm

Ryan families are invited to have fun exploring the many worlds of our solar system. Learn about the Sun and how its ocean of solar wind plasma flows through the solar system. Learn about NASA's robotic explorers and the amazing worlds they have discovered. Use your art, engineering, and life science skills to picture how life might adapt to worlds beyond Earth, create your own planetary magnetic shield, and design future robotic explorers. Parents and students are invited to come have fun learning about our solar system!

Our next Dining Night Out will be at Ruby Ru's Street Eatery (1280 Centaur Village Dr., Lafayette) on Wednesday, March 22, from 4-8pm!

Ruby Ru's will be donating 10% of ALL sales that evening to Ryan—no need to show a flyer or mention Ryan!
