Issues with Cell Phones during the Instructional Day
We are having a problem with cell phones being out during the instructional day which is against district policy. We allow the students to have their cell phones from 8:00-8:20 AM and after 4:00 PM.
Students are NOT allowed to have them during the instructional school day (8:20-4:00) unless they are using them for a class as approved by the teacher and/or we are having a special occasion where device time is awarded.
Here is what we have announced for the last several weeks in regards to our policy that will be enforced:
- All cell phones should be in the students' backpacks/purses that should be in their lockers at all times!!!
- Cell phones should not be in their possession (that includes in pockets, in binders, in a "fanny pack" etc.) during the school day.
- The exception to this is if a teacher wants them to have them for his/her class. In this case, the teacher can allow them to get their phone out of their locker and then return it to their locker at the end of the period.
- If a cell phone is seen in a student's possession, then that cell phone will be taken up and turned into the office.
- The parent will have to come get the phone and pay the $15.
- This has been their warning....there are no exceptions!!!
Friendly reminder about students arriving before 8:00 AM
Icenhower staff begins their duty day at 8:00 AM. Students who are dropped off before 8:00 AM will not be supervised.
The school day ends at 4:00 PM. Please make sure your student is picked up in a timely manner.

From this point forward, students will be called down during their WIN Time to come get their lunch that has been dropped off in the front office (this is 3rd period for 6th grade; 4rd period for 5th grade).
School-Wide Reading Initiative Continues!
This will be Icenhower's 2nd year implementing our School-Wide Reading Initiative where all student will be required to read a certain amount of books from several genres for the school year (more information to come from your child's Language Arts teachers)! All staff members also join in on this challenge (including our administrative team)!
Our teachers will continue to build their classroom libraries to give students and staff a wide variety of books to choose from, and any books you no longer use would be greatly appreciated!
You can drop off your donated books in either the front office or give them to your child's Language Arts teacher!
No Messages will be delivered after 3:00 PM
We understand that emergency situations can come up, and those will be handled accordingly.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Please follow the arrival and dismissal procedures as explained below. Parent drop off and pick WILL BE in the front, and these procedures MUST be followed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Everything will go much smoother if everyone follows the correct procedures!
-
Students arriving prior to 8:00am are outside and unsupervised until 8:00am. At 8:00am, students enter the building and report to the gym or to the cafeteria for breakfast. The tardy bell rings at 8:30. Students not in class at this time will report to the office and sign-in as “tardy to school.”
