From the Principal
Happy Friday,
Things are back in full swing here at Hawkins, with everyone working hard to get routines back in place after the break. I want to give a shout to Mrs. Newman’s class and all of the parents who came in to support the “Ellis Island” activity. It was incredible to watch and I think everyone got a lot out of it. We are going to have to make a change to our STEAM night due to some facility conflicts. That is the negative to Hawkins having such a beautiful facility. This weather has been crazy, please keep an eye on it as sooner or later we are gonna see snow and ice. A reminder that we do not have school on January 30th.This is a teacher professional development day. We have started a 2nd grade, “cleanification” group, (this name was chosen by our leadership students). This will be led by our 4th grade leaders, and will give 2nd graders the opportunity to give up a recess to stay in and help to tidy up our school. This will begin next week. Have a great weekend everyone, give your kids a hug and take the time to truly enjoy every day with them. You are going to blink and they will be all grown up.

New Preschool Option
This is a quick announcement that spaces remain in our new Great Start Readiness Preschool (GSRP) classroom at Miller. The Brighton Area Schools has added an additional preschool classroom in at the Miller Intergenerational Center. This will be a free preschool option that will be run by the Livingston ESA through the State's Great Start Readiness Program. You can sign your BAS-Bound 4 year old student up for this free preschool option at startfreepreschool.org. Please do not wait as planning is underway and space will be limited. Thank you for your consideration.
Counselor Corner
Counselor Corner!
I am so excited to continue working with your students this year to help facilitate and promote growth and learning! I am providing classroom lessons, small group activities, and individual support this school year.
As a reminder, your school counselor is here to support children in all areas of mental wellness that impacts their success in the classroom. We work with individuals as needs arise. If your child is struggling at school, we will work together with the classroom teacher to determine whether or not school-based services would be beneficial. We may also be able to offer resources or contacts if your family believes that outside support will best meet your child's or families needs.
The Elementary Counselor Team also has the BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have, and I will do my best to support your child.
