Fifth Grade AIM Update
@norton_AIM
This Week in AIM
Today went by really fast for all of us! We spent the first part of the day digging a little deeper into the differences between the North and South including; climate, economics, culture, technology, population etc., We used three differences sources to create Sketchnotes (Sketchnotes are rich visual notes created from a mix of handwriting, drawings, hand-drawn typography, shapes, and visual elements like arrows, boxes, and lines etc., to visually synthesize and summarize new information). The information we have gathered over the last two AIM days will be vital in our first PBL of informing our political candidate about the increasing tension prior to 1860.
Electricity and my Drone!
Then we took a quick break to film a sequence for an upcoming UIL commercial (we used my drone to film so they were EXTREMELY excited to participate!), I hope to have the commercial done tonight or tomorrow night!
I used the last hour of the day to present our year-long science PBL, below is the scenario they were presented with;
You are a newly hired employee at a home design construction company. Your first assignment is to work as part of a team to design a showcase house for a new futuristic neighborhood. Your role is to ensure that power (electricity) requirements are planned appropriately and are adequate for this new home. The home will serve as a model for future home owners around the world. Your training in college stressed home design and not electricity but this is a huge opportunity for you to impress your boss!
After presenting the scenario, together we made a huge list of what we KNOW and what we NEED TO KNOW about electricity. From our list we immediately began researching the answers to some of our class generated questions (specifically around how electricity travels and the difference between AC and DC. After some time researching we came back together and shared what we had learned. Next week we will continue developing in this area!
