Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
THOUGHTS and THANK YOUS
Dear Farley Families,
This past week, the Hudson Public Schools' administrative staff met at the New England Botanical Gardens for a three-day leadership conference. We worked as a team to discuss and plan for the year ahead. Together, we created a draft of the District Improvement Plan, learned about the upcoming equity assessment, and explored our new social-emotional curriculum “Choose Love”. Mrs. Doble and I feel super energized and ready to start the school year!
Special thanks this week goes to our incredible office administrative assistants. While Mrs. Doble and I were away this week, Heather Paquette and Elaine Neidermeier (pictured below), worked behind the scenes to get everything organized for our students’ return to school. As far as we are concerned, these women are true super heroes. They are proactive, talented, knowledgeable, kind humans that go above and beyond the call of duty. There will never be enough thanks for all the magical work they do for all of us.
In addition, thank you to all the students and families who participated in the Virtual End of the Summer Dance Party last Wednesday night! I loved all your dance moves and seeing your bright smiles across my screen. Huge shout-outs to Ms. Naya, Mrs. Gasek, Mrs. Doble, and Mrs. Walker who are staff members who also joined in on the fun. I can’t wait for more in-person and virtual events this upcoming year.
Home and School has asked that I share an important message from them about our ONE and ONLY fundraiser of the year:
Greetings from Farley Home and School!
For the past three years, Farley Elementary School’s Home and School has partnered with Boosterthon experts to hold an exciting, school-wide Fun Run. This FUN RUN event is the ONLY MAJOR FUNDRAISER of the year. This Fun Run is a healthy alternative to traditional product sales that raises much-needed funds for our school. Family and friends anywhere in the world can support Farley by giving pledges to our student runners!
Typically held on Farley’s baseball field, the Boosterthon Fun Run event is a high-energy day, full of enthusiasm from students, staff, families, friends, and of course, Boosterthon team members. Each grade assembles on the field and has a blast running laps while our community cheers them on, waving homemade signs and snapping pictures. Upbeat music plays continuously through the speakers as Boosterthon team members join the students around the Boosterthon Speedway, dancing and running to themed laps. You may see students laughing in a conga line, whipping lassos around their heads, driving a racecar, or racing a Boosterthon team member. The goal of this event is to provide an enjoyable experience that builds community and school culture, while including fitness in the students’ school day.
So, you may be wondering, “What exactly happens during the Boosterthon Fun Run Fundraiser?” Here’s a quick run-down of what you can expect as part of our fitness, leadership, and character-based fundraiser.
About two weeks before the Boosterthon Fun Run event begins, students will learn about this year’s character-based theme. Each day brings new learning and another day closer to the Boosterthon Fun Run event. Our fun, fitness event will encourage your children to let loose, be active and play with their classmates! All caregivers, staff, and community members are invited to join us by attending the event and cheering on students as they run an average of 30-35 laps around the “Boosterthon Speedway”. The Boosterthon Fun Run event is designed to celebrate every student learning valuable character and leadership principles while helping their school.
Home and School is excited to kick off our Farley Fun Run on 09/12/2022. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for updated library resources and to support student events (like last year’s incredible cultural programs) throughout the school year to strengthen our school community.
Our school relies on this ONE and ONLY fundraiser for the year to provide exceptional opportunities to enhance student learning. We need YOUR HELP to make it successful. What can you do now? You can start by registering your student (register on MYBOOSTER.COM) and by sharing with friends and family. Mark your calendars for the Farley Fun Run fundraiser. It will be kicking off soon!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
WELCOME MS. ERIN GAFFNY FROM FOREST AVE! (not to be confused with Mrs. Kim Gaffney)
Ms. Erin Gaffny is so excited to start her 16th year teaching by joining the Farley family! Ms. Gaffny has been a teacher for 15 years at Forest Avenue, teaching second grade for 11 years, third grade for 2 years and Physical Education for the last 2 years. While she loved her time teaching PE, she is so excited to be back in the classroom! This summer, Ms. Gaffny has enjoyed going to the beach, reading many new books and is eagerly awaiting the Patriots’ season to start! Her favorite activity though, is spending time watching her kids do what they love. Her son, Cayden, will be a freshman at Hudson High School. He loves playing football, basketball and running track. Her daughter, Dylan, will be an eighth grader at HHS and is competitive gymnast. Her son, Declan, will be in fifth grade at Quinn Middle School and he loves to play flag football and basketball. Grade 3 at Farley will now have two teachers with names that sound exactly the same! Don't worry, Mrs. Kim Gaffney is still also par of the Grade 3 team.

A NOTE FROM THE NURSES
Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Wright wanted to share a few reminders:

- Any medication, both prescribed and over-the counter, must be brought to the nurse by the legal caregiver with a medical doctor's order.
- For your child's comfort, feel free to provide a complete change of clothes to be left in student lockers in case of spills, accidents, etc.
- Please make sure to email or call Mrs. Hill if there are ever any medical changes that occur throughout the year.
- Vision, Hearing, and Height/Weight (Grades 1 and 4) will take place in September. Email Mrs. Hill if you do not want your child to participate in the screening.
- Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast (at home or at school) and gets lots of sleep!

A FARLEY FAMILY DIRECTORY IS IN THE WORKS!
Home and School is putting together a Farley Family Directory! A directory comes in handy when trying to connect with other families outside of school. If you would like your contact information included in the directory please fill out the Google Form online which can be accessed using the QR code on the right. If you prefer, we have included a hard copy of the form in your Welcome Packet being mailed out on the 15th. Just fill in the information and return the hardcopy to the main office. The hardcopy form is linked below. You will need your child's teacher's name so please wait to fill out the form until after you receive the placement letter. Special thanks to Lauren Grover and Fabiana Hummel for creating the forms!
