Academic Spotlight: Kylie Smith
Academic and Extra-curricular Accomplishments:
Kylie Smith is currently ranked #1 in Cabot High School’s graduating class of 2018, and she is predicted to graduate with high honors as the class’s valedictorian. Kylie received the AP Scholar with Honor award from CollegeBoard for scoring 3 or higher on at least four AP Exams, and averaging at least a score of 3.25 on all exams take. She was awarded the “Commended Student” status for her high PSAT index score of 213, and she currently has a 33 on her ACT. Kylie was selected for, alongside 400 other Arkansas students, and attended Arkansas Governor’s School, a six-week residential summer program for gifted and talented students. Previously, Kylie had also been selected alongside 1 other student in her school to attend the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Summit. During both programs, Kylie immersed herself in intellectually stimulating cultures and community outreach programs. Kylie is also the secretary of her school’s mathematics national honor society club, Mu Alpha Theta, and a senior editor for the short story section of Cabot’s Literary Magazine Liminality.
Community:
During Kylie’s sophomore year, she and a friend started a club at Cabot High School that promotes women’s involvement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields: FemiSTEM. Kylie enlisted over 100 members in the club’s first year. She has worked with the school in order to push students to involve themselves in STEM fields by devising field trips to local universities like Harding to host STEM conferences, offering free STEM tutoring for and by members of her club, and volunteering at local elementary schools in the Cabot School District to give a multitude of science demonstrations to foster younger children’s passions for science. Kylie also is a member of Cabot’s branch of Young Democrats. During the 2016 election season, Kylie worked closely with State Representative nominee Victoria Leigh on her campaign by phone banking and working door-to-door. With Young Democrats, Kylie volunteered at the Democratic Headquarters in Little Rock on Election Day to also phone bank for other democratic candidates like Susan Inman and Bill Rahn.
College:
Kylie hopes to either attend University of Arkansas at Little Rock as a Donaghey Scholar and receive a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree or attend Indiana University at Bloomington and receive a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree. She also hopes to receive a secondary education teaching certification and work in socioeconomically disadvantaged school districts as a math teacher.

Any questions, please see Ms. Jenifer Mitchell in Champs Hall 109.Nimitz
The Navy "Nimitz" Experience will be on CHS campus 18-20 October located between the JROTC building and the AG/Broadcasting building. It is a state of the art immersive experience, with a virtual reality mission, electronic data capture, and digital technology at every touch point. The experience consists of a mission briefing, virtual reality F-18 mission, photo booth, deployment tent and a physical training yard.
Anyone age 17 and under are required to have a parent/guardian sign a waiver. Waivers can be picked up from Master Sergeant Atkinson in the JROTC building during normal school hours.
CHS Check Out Policy
CHS students will be allowed to check out with a parent/guardian note only. A parent/guardian phone number will need to be included on the checkout note for verification purposes.
***No phone call checkouts will be allowed because of safety concerns.
CHS is a closed campus and we strongly discourage students from checking out at lunch. This typically causes unnecessary tardies and classroom interruptions. If a student is checking out at lunch, a parent/guardian must physically come in and sign the student out and them back in from lunch.
Only a parent/guardian is allowed to drop lunch off for a student. If a parent/guardian is dropping off lunch for a student, there will be a table (outside the office) with a sharpie for the students name to be written on it. Students should know in advance that lunch is being dropped off to them.
