Publicity Release for GREAT, Inc on the Schubert Theatre
GREAT, Inc. has received a matching grant award notice in the amount of $10,000 from the Idaho Heritage Trust for the repair and repointing of the exterior masonry of the historic Schubert Theatre through the royalty payments of our trademarked license plate design. As the historic Schubert Theatre is located in Gooding in District 26 we thought it important that you be informed of this grant and aware that the Idaho Heritage Trust is at work in District 26. This grant has enabled the Gooding Restoration for Entertainment, Arts and Theatre (aka GREAT, Inc.) to do restoration and preservation work on the historic Schubert Theatre, built in 1920 by Governor Frank R. Gooding.
We have also received notice of a $3,000 grant from the Idaho Community Foundation.
The incredible work and progress the Board of Directors of GREAT, Inc. has made to restore the Schubert Theatre has been remarkable thanks to their hard work, and the generosity and charitable donations of our partners, community and volunteers since we had our Community Vision Meeting!
Together and united, we now have:
- a new roof,
- conceptual drawings,
- we are well on our way to getting the brick and mortar repaired and sealed
- we will soon have a web page up and running
- and we will be taking bids to clean and paint the cornice above the entrance.
BRAVO to all of our GREAT stars and MANY THANKS to the National Historic Preservation Trust, Idaho Heritage Trust, thanks to the Idaho State Legislature making the funding available to the Idaho Heritage Trust for historic preservation, the Idaho Community Foundation, the BRM Fund within the Idaho Community Foundation, the Idaho Humanities Council, Union Pacific, Glanbia, Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation, Lucile Bickett, Harv B. The City of Gooding Needs Your Help and Input
Committees
The city of Gooding is looking for community members to provide input and assist us in developing plans for several different projects we are working on. The committee members will be selected by the Mayor from a list of interested citizens.
Airport Advisory Group- This group will help with recognizing potential safety issues at the Gooding Airport and provide ideas for how the airport should grow and be the best airport in the valley. One member of the group will be chosen to report to Mayor and Council on a routine basis.
BMX Park- This group will provide input for the development of a BMX park to be installed next to the skate board park. We are currently reaching out to professional BMX park developers for assistance and will be looking for help from the BMX community to make sure we get the right “style” for all of our riders' abilities.
Transportation Master Plan- The city is currently developing a long term plan to address the ability of our roads and sidewalks to handle current and future needs for motor vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles. We will be seeking individuals to help prioritize the community's concerns.
If you would be interested in serving on one of the committees please contact the City Clerk by phone 208 934-5669 or mail, 308 5th Ave West Gooding, ID 83330
Streets
Last month the city council approved a plan to allow 129,000 pound vehicles to access the “Industrial Park” on Agri Lane by using Roosevelt from Highway 46 East to Oregon and then North to Agri Lane and finally East to the Industrial Park. On February 19th at 6:45 PM the city would like to conduct a Public Hearing to allow for comment from the public prior to adoption and submission to ITD. This will allow commercial carriers who routinely transport loads of this capacity to permit yearly with ITD for access to and from the Industrial Park. We hope this will encourage enterprise in the park. If you would be interested in serving on one of this committee please contact the City Clerk by phone 208 934-5669 or mail at 308 5th Ave West Gooding, ID 83330.
