Daily Social-Emotional Wellness Activities for the Week of April 6-10
MINDFULNESS MONDAY
· Mindfulness is the ability to focus on the present and accept one’s circumstances, is a self-awareness skill that can significantly reduce stress and anxiety.
·It is so exciting that Spring is here, there are so many beautiful colors thriving and lots of things to notice!
· Today take a Rainbow walk or tour throughout your home. Take time to notice something red, yellow, orange, green, blue & purple (feel free to notice things beyond the colors listed). After completing the walk/tour talk as a family about the things you noticed and what you found the most interesting.
TALK ABOUT IT TUESDAY
Having conversations with family members helps to keep us connected to each other and helps to stimulate our brains. Have some fun sharing ideas with each other.
Ages 8 and younger:
Name 1-3 acts of kindness you can do or have done and 1-3 things you love
Ages 8 and older:
What would you invent if you could invent anything you wanted?
WELLNESS WEDNESDAY
Your physical wellness is a huge part of self-care. Get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Here are some ideas to have fun in the outdoors as a family while remembering to social distance.
· Chalk a walk – Take a walk and write messages or draw pictures of kindness using sidewalk chalk to encourage your neighbors.
· Puffy Sidewalk Paint Recipe- Fun idea for all! : https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/puffy-sidewalk-paint/
· Take a nature walk on a new trail – slow down and enjoy nature. Notice the birds, the trees and the other treasures in the outdoors that we don’t always take time to see on our walks.
· Go on a family bike ride - Start slow and increase your distance each time you go for a ride.
THINK IT THROUGH THURSDAY
Let’s challenge your mind and learn about yourself and your family. Our Think Through it will is based on The 7 Habits of Highly effective Families (Stephen Covey) and The 7 Habits of Happy Kids (Sean Covey)
· Habit 1- Be Proactive - Be encouraged to be RESPONSIBLE for YOUR behaviors, choices and responses. Discuss how each member of the family contributes to the success of the family. How are you most proactive? When and how are you most reactive? How can we improve?
