Trigonometry in Soccer
By: Jenna Rabuck
During a penalty kick or just trying to shoot a goal, there are many ways to use trigonometry. When a player is going towards the goal the player is thinking how far the goalie is, where the goalie is in the goal, how far the goalie is away from the posts, and where they should shoot the ball. This is using trigonometry and all soccer players use it without them even thinking about it.
My Problem/Example:
The player is 36 ft. away from the goalie and the goalie is 12 ft away from the post. At what angle should the player shoot the ball?
