Joanna Baker Wins the 13th Annual Poetry Out Loud Contest.
Sophomore Joanna Baker won the school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition on January 24th and will represent Grady at the regional competition on February 17th at the Atlanta History Center. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation contest sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. Joanna recited Mirror by James Merrill
Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation contest sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The purpose of the contest is to promote an appreciation of poetry and to help students develop public speaking skills and self-confidence. Participants choose from a pre-selected library of great poems and are judged on their physical presence, voice and articulation, appropriateness of dramatization, evidence of understanding, overall performance, and accuracy.
