Pāpāmoa Primary
Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga
Matt's Message
Kia Ora Koutou
It's hard to believe that we only have just over two weeks until the end of the term. It's hard to believe we are heading back into the summer terms of school!
With the passing of Queen Elizabeth last week we now also have an additional one off public holiday happening on the last Monday of the school term - Monday 26th September. We are very thankful for the timing of this holiday as we have the Motiti camps happening over the next two weeks and there is nothing major scheduled for Monday 26th!
Voting for our school board elections have closed. If you have seen your emails from yesterday you will have seen that Sarah Webb and Vicky Williamson have been re-appointed to the board and we welcome new parent representatives Jamie Smith, Kate Wallis and Nikki Turner as staff representative.
With Pāpāmoa Primary running a split election cycle Mark Divehall and Toni Stanaway's positions on the board were not up for re-election this time around.
The newly formed Pāpāmoa School Board of Trustees who take office from today are:
- Sarah Webb
- Vicky Williamson
- Jamie Smith
- Kate Wallis
- Mark Divehall
- Toni Stanaway
- Nikki Turner
We would like to thank all of the parents who showed an interest in the school board elections and to those staff and parents who stood for the election but were not successful in being elected on to the board. Thank you also to those parents who took the time to vote in the election process.
The first order of business for the newly formed board is to elect a Presiding Member or Board Chairperson. This will happen at our first meeting next Tuesday night. Once the Presiding Member has been confirmed we will notify the community of this.
The board will be travelling together to the NZ School Trustees Association Conference in Christchurch over the coming school holidays for some professional development which will set the board in good steed moving into the next 3 years.
I had the pleasure of attending school camp at Aongatete Lodge yesterday with 2 of our 8 Motiti classes. It was so awesome to see the enjoyment of all of the tamariki and adults at Camp. Things like camp really remind you as an educator why we chose this profession.
To the staff and team involved in the planning and preparing for these camps, from food to logistics I would like to say a big thanks. Thanks also to those parents who have taken their time to be apart of the camp to make it successful.
Over the next couple of weeks we will see the finishing touches start to happen on the school court with the laying of the new astroturf. While we will lose use of the court for the last two weeks of term, it will be short term pain for long term gain.
Ngā mihi
Matt
