Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

As many of you know, we are piloting or trying out two language arts programs in some of our kindergarten, 1st grade and 4th grade classrooms. Whenever we look at new materials, we have a district level process where we seek input from all of our teachers and families. This process is called an IMAP.

Currently, San Luis Coastal Unified School District has formed an Instructional Materials

Adoption Panel (IMAP) to review kindergarten – 5th grade English Language Arts

materials for possible adoption. The committee is requesting community input in

this process. Interested parents and community members are invited to visit Baywood during regular business hours to review English Language Arts textbooks

and complete a School Community Evaluation forms. Textbooks and materials are

on display in our library through February 4, 2016. We encourage you

to participate and value your input. All completed School Community Evaluations

will be reviewed by the IMAP prior to making a recommendation to our School Board.

I will be sharing these materials with our PTA at their meeting on Feb. 4th at 6:00, and all parents are invited to join us. Please feel free to direct any questions my way as well.

Respectfully,

Jennifer Dinielli

Open Enrollment Registration

Mark your calendars! Open enrollment and registration begins Monday, February 29, 2016 through Thursday, March 24, 2016.

***If you have a friend or neighbor with a child who will be of Preschool or Kindergarten age for next school year, spread the word***

What is Open Enrollment?

Open Enrollment is the time period during which families may request their child attend a school other than their home school. While we hope you are happy at Baywood, we understand that sometimes, for a variety of reasons, families are better served by their child attending another school due to transportation needs, child care or other circumstances. If this is your situation, come to our office between the dates listed above to complete the request paperwork. Do not miss this important deadline.

How do I Register an Incoming PreSchooler or Incoming Kindergartner?

Come into our office starting Feb. 29th for the paperwork & information. Incoming Kindergartners must be five years old on or before September 1, 2016. Transitional Kindergartners must be five on or before December 2, 2016. Preschool students must be four by December 2, 2016. If you have a friend or neighbor with a child this age, please help us get the word out about these important dates!

What if I already have a child at Baywood, how do I Register them for the Next School Year?

You will receive InfoSnap online registration info in the Spring and will attend our Registration Day at the end of Summer. We will be sharing that important date with you soon!

If you have any questions about registration, please stop by our office or call 534-2856.

Math is Fun!

Thank you for joining us for Baywood's Family Math Night! A great time was had by all!

It was wonderful to see parents and children having fun doing math together. Thank you for your partnership!

Speaking of math, we know that the changes in our math curriculum over the last couple years have offered new challenges, especially for parents. The math our students do is not the math we did as children. We are including two videos to support your new understandings of the math standards. The first video, Making Sense Series is a great video demonstrating the progression of multiplication and the standard traditional algorithm.

The second video is by a math professor at Stanford University, Jo Boaler. She shares four key messages to support your children in math. She couples her math work with Carol Dweck’s work on the Growth Mindset (another professor from Stanford). We hope you enjoy this short video How To Learn Math. Her website, www.youcubed.org, is a treasure trove of math ideas.
