Salk Seahawk Scoop
Week of 1/29/2023
A Note From the Principal
Salk Elementary Families:
I hope you enjoyed your snow day last week. Thank you for all of your patience and understanding on our early release.
I also wanted to take a moment to talk about attendance. Last week, attendance letters were sent home to all students who have been absent 10 or more days this year. This is the first time since the pandemic that the district has required these letters go out. As all the Salk families know attendance matters, not only for academic success, but because school offers an opportunity to develop social and emotional skills such as listening, paying attention, problem-solving and self-regulation, all which are needed to grow and learn. We certainly understand that most individuals that have 10 or more absences have very legitimate reasons to be absent from school. We ask that you continue to partner with the school to have your students in class and call in and verify their absences when they cannot come to school.
Go Seahawks,
Anthony Birkmeier
Heart-A-Grams
Heart-A-Grams are a nice way to send valentine wishes or tell your child that you love them. Heart-A-Grams will be delivered on Valentine's Day to all classrooms. If you would like to pre-purchase Heart-A-Grams, then please fill out the form below and send the form and money to school with your child. Heart-A-Grams will not be sold in the office or in the classrooms.
Please keep in mind that the student council will be selling only until the Heart-A-Grams sell out...which they do every year!
PARKING LOT
* Please remember that the drop-off lane is not for parked cars.
* The bus loop is for buses only!
* If you want to walk your child to their door, please park in a parking spot and walk up together.
Thank you for helping to create a safe parking lot for all our students!
Sweetheart Dance
6th Grade Parent's Night at RMS
Richards Middle School would like to invite you and your child to Richards Middle School on the evening of Thursday, February 23rd, at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this evening is to introduce you and your child to their future school, the programs offered, and the selective classes available to them. They will also provide our students with a tour of the building’s selective classrooms.
The program will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. Parents are to report to the RMS gym, where they will meet the administrators, counselors, and academic department heads. Students will gather in the cafeteria, where their tour will begin.
The goal is to provide you and your child with a good understanding of the middle school vision and mission at Richards Middle School.
RMS counselors will visit each elementary classroom beginning Monday, February 27th for the 2023-24 school year and Wednesday, March 1st to assist students in filling out their schedule forms. Students are to return their schedule requests to their 6th-grade teacher no later than March 5th.
Counselors will again help with inputting the course requests at the elementary schools beginning March 6th and March 8th.
Band Concert
With the inclement weather the band concert was canceled. Information and a new date will be released as soon as details are finalized.

Ready or Not - Cold Weather is Here!
We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10 degrees or warmer.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons.
