The First Nine Weeks

We have rounded the corner on the first nine weeks! Our teachers and staff gathered on Friday morning to celebrate student and staff successes. From academics and extracurriculars to athletics and the arts, we have seen our students make great gains this nine weeks, and we are so proud of their efforts. We hope you and your families are enjoying fall break. We will see our students again on Wednesday morning.

As you know, report cards will be shared with parents and families via PowerSchool on Friday. Remember, grading is a reflection of what our students have learned based on the state standards. Take the opportunity to talk with your child about his or her learning this first nine weeks. We are working with our students to set goals to measure their growth over time. Grades are one measure of their growth, but not the whole picture.

When a student does not complete an assignment, a zero is placed in the gradebook. This is an effort to help communicate to students the need to get his/her work completed. Once students make up their work after an absence, the zero will be replaced with the grade that represents the learning that has taken place.

Although we are assessing students learning across the school day, we are not reporting grades in the areas of study hall, intervention, resource, or academic strategies. These classes are intended to support the work of the classroom and do not require an individual grade.

If you have questions or concerns about grading practices, feel free to reach out to a teacher or administrator. But first, have a conversation with your child about his/her learning.
