TZ Parents and Guardians,

On Friday, September 9 we held our 6th Annual 9/11 Observance in the classrooms over the intercom (due to the weather conditions this morning). In addition, today we joined with millions of other students across our great nation in the national sing-a-long of The Star Spangled Banner. As a part of this observance, we had the Pledge of Allegiance, moment of silence, a poem and words shared about this event in our history.

Note: Teachers did not have classroom discussions that focused on the tragedy of that day, especially to go into detail about the events of that day. Our focus is while it was a terrible event in our history, it was the heroes everywhere that came together to help everyone through the disaster and to celebrate being an American.

Respectfully,

Jon Strube

Mid-Term Progress Reports--Sent Home with Students on September 9

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Mid-term progress reports were sent home on Friday, September 9. The beginning of the school year is filled with learning procedures, routines, and expectations. This is also a time when teachers are getting to know the students both academically and socially with both formal and informal assessments. The mid-term report is a means of giving parents a checkup of how the student is performing.

Typically, there are a handful of grades collected in each subject by the mid-term. The first mid-term is different, as there are not many assignments that go into the total calculation of the mid-term grade. Parents should take the mid-term grade with care and not place much emphasis on this checkpoint.

Another item we want to point out is your child has only had one complete special class rotation (art, music, PE) at this point. If they have not had the class yet this grading period they will not have a grade or if they just started the class, it may be an incomplete grade with just a few scores. This also applies to the subject areas of science and social studies. Depending on how the teacher provides the curriculum/instruction for science and social studies, students may not have a grade for one of those subjects at this time, or it may be just a small number of assignments that calculate the current grade.

Parents are able to log into Skyward to check up on student progress 24/7. Any questions may be addressed with the classroom teacher.

Volunteer in the Classroom or Field Trip--Need Background Check On File--Good for One Year

Greetings TZ Parents/Guardians!

At TZ we appreciate parents/guardians that would like to volunteer to assist in the classrooms and/or go on field trips. As a part of any volunteer activity, we must have a cleared background check on file for each person wanting to assist here at school or accompany a class on a field trip.

I wanted to take time to clarify the limited/volunteer background checks. These background checks are free to our volunteers. A limited/volunteer background check is only good for one calendar year. If a volunteer wishes to continue volunteering after one year, they must submit a new application.

A link to the form that needs to be completed and turned in to the TZ office is below. You may also come by the school to complete the form. We do need to have a copy of your driver’s license to process the request.

Again, we appreciate your willingness to volunteer.

Mr. Strube

Now is the time to ENROLL or RECONNECT your Kroger Plus Card to Help Earn FREE Dollars for TZ

For those that already have a Kroger account and a linked Kroger Plus Card

Note: Each December you will need to reconnect your Kroger Plus Card to the organization you wish to support. If you have already connected your Kroger Plus Card to TZ, we ask that you take a few minutes to reconnect your card to continue to support TZ.

We are looking for a few good men to volunteer their time at TZ.

Men can play an important role in the lives of our students. Please consider volunteering an hour of your time each month to help students, and support TZ. We are looking for volunteers to help welcome students as they start their day, provide classroom support, and help with special events and spirit days. If you are willing to help, please fill out the form below. If you have questions, please contact Brian Cox at briancox@gogreencastle.com or Jon Strube at jstrube@greencastle.k12.in.us. Any men interested in volunteering would need to have a current background check on file. Please request a background check form from the TZ office or you may go to printable forms on the TZ webpage to print your own form.
