SOL Testing

3rd-5th Grade SOL Testing begins Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Below are some testing tips that will be helpful for your child along with the schedule for SOL testing. Thank you for your support!

As a parent, you can help prepare for testing by following these steps:

  • Make sure your child arrives on time for school. If your child arrives after 9:25 a.m., he/she will not be permitted to enter the testing location. (We will start testing once all buses have arrived)
  • Try not to schedule appointments on scheduled testing days.
  • Make sure your child is well-rested and gets plenty of sleep the night before testing.
  • Make sure your child arrives with a fully charged Chromebook.
  • Encourage your child to do his/her best. The more effort and energy a child put into learning, the more likely he/she will do well on the test.

Clear Bookbags Available

Suffolk Public Schools has gifted us with clear bookbags. If you would like one for your student please notify your child's teacher. We are promoting the use of clear bookbags moving forward.

Bookbags will be distributed while supplies last.

Snacks Available

Students are now able to purchase snacks from the school cafeteria when they get lunch. All snacks are $1.00. The cafeteria will not be able to issue change. Students must have exact change or have money on their account.

Door Safety

When entering or exiting the building please do not hold the door open for others. We certainly understand courtesy; however, for safety we need everyone to ring the buzzer and be allowed in by school personnel.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is an important part of your child's academic success! Both excused and unexcused absences affect academic progress and state reporting/accreditation status. Please keep students in school as much as possible. We want your child to be successful and our school to remain Fully Accredited!

If your child must be absent from school please be sure to notify the front office. You may send in a paper note or email our attendance clerk, Mrs. Moore at robinmoore@spsk12.net.

Car Rider Procedures

  • Please have students exit the car nearest the sidewalk (passenger side).

  • Students that arrive after 9:25 a.m. have to be escorted in the building through the front entrance by a parent/guardian.

  • Your 2022-23 Tag must be visible until your child is in the car with you.
  • Please be prepared to present your photo ID.
  • Please refrain from lining up for pick up prior to 3:30 p.m. to avoid traffic backup on Godwin Blvd.
  • Please follow the direction of the car rider staff.
  • Parents are asked to remain in their vehicle.

Transportation

It is extremely important that parents communicate in writing how their student(s) will be getting home. It is recommended that parents stay as consistent as possible with transportation to and from school. If you would like your child to ride the school bus home please have them ride the bus to school. This helps eliminate confusion at dismissal time.

If at anytime parents need to change transportation, please communicate this with your child's teacher in writing.

Communication/Home Access Center

Please make sure that the school keeps updated contact information on file for you. We should have an updated phone number, email address, and mailing address. This information is used to keep you informed of upcoming events and important school topics.

Also, please check Home Access Center (HAC) frequently to ensure that you are updated on your students' academic progress.
