123 Care Elementary (Room 132)

I can't wait to meet you all!

Dear Parents

Welcome to First Grade! My name is Ms. Elizabeth Llanas and I will be your child's first grade teacher. I graduated from The University of Houston with a degree in teaching and I am certified as a bilingual teacher. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time during the school year should you have any questions. I am looking forward to meeting every single one of you as well as your child on the first day of school!

First Week of School

My goals for the first week of school are simple, but very important. I want to build a classroom that feels like a community by introducing myself and by having my students introduce themselves to one another. By introducing ourselves, we will each get to know one another more and begin to build our little family. Although this may take a couple of weeks, I also want to set up a classroom routine where my students know what I expect from them. In doing so, we will be organizing our class supplies, students desks, and describe class jobs. I will also be sending out paper work with your child that needs to be filled out and returned as soon as possible. As the year goes by, you will continue to receive these weekly newsletters to help keep you informed on what your child is learning.

Our curriculum includes the following subjects: Language Arts/Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, the Arts, and Physical Education. These subjects will be explored throughout the whole year and will be split among several other specific educators that you will be able to meet on Parent Night. I will be your child's homeroom and Language Arts and Reading teacher where we will focus on phonics. To help my students understand what they are learning, I will include stories/books that introduce vocabulary, develop reading skills, and enhance phonemic awareness.

Back-To-School Supplies List

There are two options you can choose from when purchasing school supplies. The school offers a prepared school supply package for first graders that you can purchase at the front office. You can also feel free to purchase the supplies yourself if you wish to do so. It is also important for your child to carry an extra shirt with them at all times if an incident occurs. Although the school provides basic supplies, you may find it helpful to purchase the following items:

  • A backpack
  • A box of tissues
  • One box of #2 pencils
  • One box of crayons or crayon pencils
  • One big eraser
  • A pencil bag
  • Two pocket folders and two notebooks
  • A pair of safety scissors
  • Two glue sticks or a bottle of glue
