Message from Mrs. Doss
We are on our way into the busy beginning times of the year! Our students have been working hard reviewing and learning our Positive Behavior Support Lessons that we focus on each week. This week students focused on Bus Lessons and being Respectful. We call this one of our Spartan Skills. Each student says their school pledge, along with the Pledge of Allegiance, each morning. They make that pledge to be a Responsible, Respectful and Safe student here at GBE!
Dismissal time is running smoothly each day. We ask that all parents make sure to contact the office prior to 3:20 for ANY dismissal changes for their child. This becomes difficult at the end of the day for our office staff as they try to communicate with other staff in charge of keeping students safe and securing them in the correct area of our school. We understand there are certain times this cannot be helped, but ask that we know in advance normally.
5 A Day The Spartan Way is our motto at lunch. Our students focus on being respectful of others and eating their lunch in a timely manner. This allows them to make the most of that time and be responsible about making sure they take time to visit quietly with friends and eat. Mrs. Snodgrass and Mrs. Lucas have been able to end the week on a positive note with our students letting me know each group did a beautiful job today after needing reminders earlier in the week. Way to go GBE Students!
Our students have begun their STAR testing and have almost completed the English Language Arts section of this assessment. Next week we will have them begin on the Math portion. This assessment is done during computer lab and assists us in seeing areas students may need help or some enrichment.
Other assessments that are being finished up during this time of year are our DRA's (Developmental Reading Assessment) for all new students to GBE. Our Title 1 teachers, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Rivera and Mrs. Mathis have sent out letters to all students that will be working with them this year for reading assistance. These classes started this week.
As we enter the next weeks of school several staff will come together and visit about the RTI (Response to Intervention) time we have each morning focusing on math three weeks and reading one week each month. This time takes place first thing in the morning running from 8:45 to 9:20. Our projected start date is September 24th. Teachers will send more out regarding this in their newsletters.
At this time I am sending this extra newsletter at the start of the year in order to have strong communication, which we strive for here at GBE, with our parents. I will begin sending a monthly newsletter after today at the start of each new month. Please make sure to check Friday folders for communication sent home from your child's teacher.
Enjoy your three day weekend with your children!
Mrs. Doss
