Technology Q & A's
Students you have three options regarding bringing technology to school once we return
Bring your personal device;
Click here if you'd like to pick up an SMCPS device prior to a your return to school.
Click here if you'd like a laptop scanned out to you on the first day you report to the building.
If using our own device follow the directions for WIFI login:
Students are encouraged to use the device issued to them from SMCPS; however, students are able to use their own personal device.
Information Technology Services (ITS) will support student personal devices to connect to the BYOD network using the following links:
Are you using a school Laptop and experiencing headphone issues? Click here.
Will IT support be available for personal devices if needed?
- No. ITS will not support any hardware or software on personal devices.
- ITS will only troubleshoot their connection to the BYOD network.
How will students chare their devices at school, especially if they forget their chargers?
- Students must take responsibility for charging devices at home the night before.
- Charging stations will be available in the classroom when needed. The expectation is that students will charge their devices during 5th period(Lunch)
- Sharing chargers and devices will not be permitted (due to following protocol)
Can SMCPS devices stay at school if a student has technology at home?
- Similar to textbooks, devices are the sole responsibility of the student and are expected to be brought with them on a daily basis.
- Technology needs to be treated in the same manner as an instructional resource (like a textbook) and it is the students’ responsibility for safekeeping.
- Students will need their devices for lessons when not in school.

Counselor's Corner
The last day to request a course change was September 18th.
If you have a course concern that you would like to be addressed here are the steps to follow:
(1) Set up an appointment to meet with the teacher one-on-one
(2) Attend multiple intervention/tutoring opportunities with the classroom teacher (this can be accomplished by requesting one-on-one Google Meets with the teacher during asynchronous sessions so you can get assistance with any content/tasks that you are struggling with).
(3) Discuss your concerns with your school counselor
(4) Requests a parent / teacher conference to include parent, student, teacher, counselor and grade-level administrator (we can consider a schedule change at this meeting once steps 1 and 2 have been completed).
Get organized during distance learning - Join Mrs. Beisel and Mrs. Neitz for a session on getting organized during distance learning. We are excited to offer this two different times, see links below.

Literacy Corner
What’s Coming Up in the Teen Literary World… Is your teen looking for something new to read? Check out these upcoming releases. Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (graphic novel) - This popular title from New York Times bestselling author (and former Maryland resident!) Jason Reynolds is back as a graphic novel. The original novel won many awards, including the Newbery Honors, and was a National Book Award finalist. Super Fake Love Song by David Yoon - “From the bestselling author of Frankly in Love comes a contemporary YA rom-com where a case of mistaken identity kicks off a string of (fake) events that just may lead to (real) love.” The blurb from the book seems like the light-hearted romp we could use right now. David is married to popular YA novelist Nicola Yoon, author of Everything, Everything. Complex Presents: Sneaker of the Year - The Best Since ‘85 - As someone who will wear the same grubby pair of Toms until the soles fall off, I cannot claim to be a sneakerhead. For the teen in your life who is a little more shoe-savvy, this could be a great read!
As always, check out book summaries and reviews to make sure a book is appropriate for your teen! You can also support local bookstores like Fenwick’s by ordering books through them at https://bookshop.org/shop/FenwickBooks.
