Nov. 21st-25th: NO SCHOOL - Thanksgiving Break
We are planning several fun family events this year....more details to be shared soon!
November Celebrations Around the World
Bonfire Day (in England- Nov 5th)
This British holiday commemorates the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
This holiday finds it roots in the chaos of 17th century England and the Gunpowder Plot of 1605
What is the Gunpowder Plot
This plot was based on grievances against King James I for refusing to grant more religious freedom and tolerance to Roman Catholics in England. Several conspirators met and planned to blow up Parliament but the plot was foiled and is now celebrated on November 5th in the United Kingdom and other members of the Commonwealth.
These celebrations manifest itself with parades, fireworks, bonfires and food. The key component of these bonfires is the burning of the straw effigies of Guy Fawkes ( ringleader of the Gunpowder Plot.)
At D6OA, we are THANKFUL for our families who partner with us to support our student's learning experience from their homes. Without the efforts of families that care deeply about their children's education and well being, who come alongside our amazing teachers, our students would not be as successful as they have been this year! We want to say THANK YOU by sharing a Thanksgiving Meal Kit with the first 130 families to sign up and commit to pick up a kit at our NavsGiving Community Event on Friday November 18 from 4:00-6:00. This service project is sponsored by a Family Engagement Grant and our MS/HS Student Councils and Honor Society Organizations.
NavsGiving Meal Kits will likely Include (substitutions may be made based on availability):
- Canned and Fresh Vegetables
- Hot Roll Mix
- Gravy
- Cranberry Sauce
- Boxed Stuffing
- Fresh Pumpkin Pie
- Gift Card to purchase Turkey, Ham or your family's traditional Thanksgiving meal main course

2023-24 OPEN ENROLLMENT IS NOW UNDERWAY FOR ALL SCHOOLS
Beginning Tuesday, November 1, Greeley-Evans School District 6 will accept applications for students who want to attend a school that is outside their boundary area.
Any parent or guardian interested in enrolling their child in a school outside their home boundary for the 2023-2024 school year must apply during the open enrollment period, which is November 1, 2022, through December 15, 2022. While District 6 is able to accommodate most open enrollment requests, it may not be able to approve requests for enrollment into schools, specific grade levels or special programs that are at or above capacity or cannot fulfill the specific needs of the student.
Parents will be notified via email of their student(s) open enrollment status prior to February 1, 2023. Parents have until February 28, 2023 to accept or deny an offer.
Students currently open-enrolled are eligible to stay at their current school through the highest grade offered at that school and do not need to apply yearly. Also, students approved for open enrollment to a school outside their home boundary, regardless of programming needs, will generally not be provided District 6 transportation services. Those open enrolling to the Tointon Academy of Pre-Engineering from outside the boundary may be eligible for transportation services. Anyone living outside Greeley-Evans School District 6 may open enroll into a District 6 school, but will not be eligible for district transportation.
All open enrollment applications are online. Find out more at www.greeleyschools.org/openenrollment.
