OUR MISSION, OUR HOPE (我们的使命我们的希望)

We exist to glorify God by making disciples of all people through Gospel truths and Gospel living. Our hope is to equip all youth to love God with all their heart, soul, and mind as well as loving their neighbor, community, and church.

BRIEFING

1. CORE VALUES: Our youth ministry philosophy is built upon an understanding that as followers of Jesus, he lays out a plan for growth and a set of expectations. These aren't necessarily rules that we must follow or else we'll get blown up, rather these are things found within Scripture that is given to the Christian, for his mission, and ultimately for our sanctification and joy. What I mean by that is when we decided to follow Jesus, these core values were handed to us so that we could be faithful to all the while enjoying the freedom and fruit that comes with it. Our ministry has identified 7 of these markers in scripture: Depth, Community, Discipleship, Service, Truth, Missions, and Prayer. We don't get to pick and choose which ones we want to be obedient to. Likewise, if our youth are calling themselves Christians, this serves as kind of a rubric for their journey. Our role is to help them grow and develop in each of these seven.

2. BALANCING SCHOOL & THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: We've already warned the leaders that some of the toughest times in youth ministry is when things get busy. Finals, graduations, APs, concerts, recitals, tournaments, and so many more begin to "compete" with Christ to see who is really more valuable. One thing I want yall to continue to teach our students is that life will continue to get busy and we're not asking them to choose between school and Jesus. Rather our job is to equip them to love Jesus in the middle of school and stress. To be obedient to the things that Jesus has called them to in the middle of busy season. Yes, i know some of you don't even have this down either but think about this for a bit will you? Does Jesus demand that we die to self (even our academic self) in order to follow after him? Yes. Does Jesus tell us to neglect school and dropout and follow him? Not necessarily. Is it hard to balance? Yes. Can it be done? Of course. We're trying to help them disciple others while their studying for APs. We're trying to help them sit under teaching or go to Conclave in addition to practicing for their Spring Show. We're not trying to insert Jesus into their lives when it's convenient. That's ultimately going to destroy their souls.

A PRECURSOR TO DROPOUT IS THIS IDEA OF CONVENIENT CHRISTIANITY. IT IS THE IDEA THAT I WILL FOLLOW JESUS AND DO WHAT HE SAYS WHEN IT IS CONVENIENT FOR ME AND MY SCHEDULE. I KNOW WHAT IS BETTER AND JESUS ONLY NEEDS TO BE THERE WHEN I WANT HIM TO BE THERE.

3. GEARING UP FOR SUMMER: Leaders, as school ends we jump into one of the most opportune seasons in our ministry. Yes, while summer is still crazy busy, we as leaders actually get to spend more time with our students. Especially you college students, this is where you can be intentional with your time mentoring the youth. Sign up to mentor them during VBS, camp, world changers, and other things. Organize meals, study groups, and activities to do with them. Introduce them to the friends you made this year in college who love Jesus as well.
