OUR MISSION, OUR HOPE (我们的使命我们的希望)
BRIEFING
2. BALANCING SCHOOL & THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: We've already warned the leaders that some of the toughest times in youth ministry is when things get busy. Finals, graduations, APs, concerts, recitals, tournaments, and so many more begin to "compete" with Christ to see who is really more valuable. One thing I want yall to continue to teach our students is that life will continue to get busy and we're not asking them to choose between school and Jesus. Rather our job is to equip them to love Jesus in the middle of school and stress. To be obedient to the things that Jesus has called them to in the middle of busy season. Yes, i know some of you don't even have this down either but think about this for a bit will you? Does Jesus demand that we die to self (even our academic self) in order to follow after him? Yes. Does Jesus tell us to neglect school and dropout and follow him? Not necessarily. Is it hard to balance? Yes. Can it be done? Of course. We're trying to help them disciple others while their studying for APs. We're trying to help them sit under teaching or go to Conclave in addition to practicing for their Spring Show. We're not trying to insert Jesus into their lives when it's convenient. That's ultimately going to destroy their souls.
A PRECURSOR TO DROPOUT IS THIS IDEA OF CONVENIENT CHRISTIANITY. IT IS THE IDEA THAT I WILL FOLLOW JESUS AND DO WHAT HE SAYS WHEN IT IS CONVENIENT FOR ME AND MY SCHEDULE. I KNOW WHAT IS BETTER AND JESUS ONLY NEEDS TO BE THERE WHEN I WANT HIM TO BE THERE.
