Barre Blast
11.03.14
With Crazy Sock Day on Monday, no school on Tuesday, Walk to School and a PTO meeting on Wednesday and our first PIN of the year on Thursday night, I wonder what Friday will bring? :) As always, it is shaping up to be a fun and engaging week at Ruggles Lane.
While I am looking forward to all of the above events, I am also looking forward to our first Student Council meeting of the year which is Thursday after school. All children who took a risk to run for Student Council should be very proud of themselves - their enthusiasm for this leadership opportunity was great to see! At our first meeting, students will be spending time brainstorming ideas for what they want to do to make Ruggles Lane an even better school than it already is. Stay tuned for more details about their ideas.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. V
PS - Moving forward, the Barre Blast will be moving to a bi-monthly publication schedule. Be on the look out for it around the 1st and 15th of each month.
Crazy Sock Day is Monday, 11/03/14 :)
Walk to School is Wednesday, 11/05/14!

Please join us on Thursday, November 6th for our rescheduled October PIN (Parent Information Night). The focus of this evening will be a curriculum overview. We will begin the evening at 7:00 together in the Auditorium for an overview of WINN (a.k.a What I Need Now), our new reinforcement/extension block for the 2014-2015 school year.
At the conclusion of this session, teachers will be doing a 15 minute presentation in classrooms to highlight the learning that takes place at RLS each day. Parents will choose two topics they would like to learn more about and travel to those sessions. Each session will run twice - @7:25 and 7:45.
The following topics will be discussed:
- K-2 Literacy (Fundations, Writer's Workshop and Reader's Workshop) with Mrs. Cranston and Mrs. Sheldon (K-2)
- Reader's Workshop with Mrs. Franklin and Mrs. Josephson (K-6)
- Math Workshop with Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. Foley and Mrs. Hughes (K-6)
- Science with Mr. McNiff (3-6)
- Writer's Workshop with Ms. Barringer and Mrs. Clark (3-6)
Volunteers Needed for Socktober!
Walking Wednesday is This Week!
If you and/or your child(ren) would like to join Mrs. Piermarini and me, please join us at the Common at 7:50 for a 7:55 departure. If you can not join us and your child would like to walk, you can drop him/her off as long as you check in with a school staff member so we are aware he/she is with us. We will talk about the rules of walking (two by two, on the sidewalk only, walking pace) and then get started! Starting the day off with a quick burst of exercise is a great way to prepare the brain for a day of learning!
In the event of rain, an email will be sent out at 7:30 canceling the walk. If you can not join us this month, no need to worry! "Walking Wednesdays" take place on the first Wednesday of each month. Our next "Walking Wednesday" will take place on December 3rd.
