PARKSIDE FAMILY NEWSLETTER
August 29th , 2021
WELCOME BACK!
Hello Parkside families,
I hope this letter finds you well and that you’re enjoying the remaining time left of summer.
We are so excited to welcome our students back to school this week and enter into the 2021-2022 school year! Having a fully renovated building has given Parkside an updated look and a sense of renewal.
This school year, we will focus on re-engaging students back into learning. We will put an emphasis on developing partnerships with our Parkside families by creating a bridge of support for one another. As we have learned over the past two years, when we support each other, we can overcome barriers to students' learning. As a school and district we will be concentrating on our literacy teaching practices and our students’ reading development.
As we begin the 2021-2022 school year, please help me welcome the following new members of our Parkside faculty and staff:
Mr. Jordan Schave, Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Jessica Hernandez, Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Jenny Hughes, Teacher on Special Assignment, (TOSA)
Mrs. Deb Manchester- Music
Mrs. Nancy Becker- 5th Grade Teacher
Ms. Jessica Verdin, ELL Teacher
Ms. Megan Chojnacki, 4th Grade Teacher

TOSA-Teacher on Special Assignment-Message to Families
Hello Parkside Families,
I am looking forward to building relationships, supporting and learning with Parkside students this school year. My role is called a TOSA(Teacher on Special Assignment). I will be supporting students in learning engagement while getting to know what is important to them. I will support student attendance, behavior and social/emotional needs with a focus on learning growth.
I have been teaching for 26 years. I have taught grades Pre-K- 5 and supported middle and high school students and teachers in literacy, STEM and project based learning. Last year, I served as an interim assistant principal at Sabish, where I was able to meet some of our Parkside families. Creating environments where students develop curiosity, enjoyment and pride for learning literacy, math, science and social studies has been my focus across my career.
I look forward to getting to know the interests and loves of our Parkside students.
Sincerely,
Jenny Hughes
Teacher for the upcoming school year.
Parents can call the school at (920)-929-2840 or log into their family access portal to find out who their classroom teacher is for the upcoming school year.
A great deal of time and effort is put into developing the best possible class list as we balance gender, special needs, learning styles behaviors, academic data, ect.
Once your child's class assignment has been determined , request to change will not be fulfilled. Many factors go into making the final "balanced" class list

Masking
Masking
Face masks are optional we accept and respect people’s beliefs and values
The District’s position is to share the information with staff, students, and families and let each individual decide what is best for them.
It is the District’s position to value the individual's choice.
In order to remain neutral and value each individual’s choice, avoid statements like, “You don’t have to wear a mask if you don’t want to” or “The CDC recommends masking for non-vaccinated individuals.” Rather, you can use or defer to concepts like, “The messaging for masking will come from the District’s Superintendent” or “Right now, masks are optional in our District, which means each person has a choice” or “Let’s focus on how we are supporting one another’s choice.”
We maintain an educational environment that is free from all forms of harassment and bullying, including related to a person’s choice to wear or not wear a mask. Comments that are general in nature or including a person’s choice to mask or not mask will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action.
COVID-19 Protocol
Disclaimer: These protocols are subject to change as the pandemic evolves
The Fond du Lac School District strongly encourages students, staff and visitors to complete the COVID-19 Health Self-Screener before going onto school property, boarding a bus or participating in a school activity.

Due to COVID-19 safety protocol only essential visitors are permitted inside the school. Parents are encouraged to contact the office by phone or email.
If a student tests positive:
Family should contact the child’s school, direct all parents and families to contact the main office.
