Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
It's a wrap - I've finished my tour of classrooms - and I enjoyed seeing your amazing children learning and growing. While I was teaching your students, their teachers were learning new engagement and differentiation teaching strategies from their colleagues. These are important aspects of academic and social emotional student growth which will be key concepts going into the 2021-22 school year. The District goal is to be back in school five days a week and we can't wait!
I'm also excited to share photos of our Outdoor Classroom and Garden. We are slowly and safely starting to use these fabulous new spaces for learning and mind breaks. If you would like a close-up look at these fun spaces and the other areas that were renovated last summer, sign up for a tour here.
Hallinan is a beautiful school and we are so happy that our families and students want to hang out here after school. Please remember that our school and all outdoor facilities are closed during school hours, from 8 am to 4 pm, even on Wednesdays; and, please remind your children to be safe, kind and responsible when at school, after hours included. I want Hallinan to be a welcome and safe place for all!
The weeks are flying by. We have HAL Hangouts again tomorrow - I hope your children will join me!
Melissa Griffiths

District Information
Please Verify Your Student's Information
Beginning April 30, LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2021-22 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by: Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
State Testing Notification
Oregon school districts are required to administer state assessments this spring in English Language Arts (ELA), math, and science. The Oregon Department of Education’s request to waive these assessments due to the pandemic was denied by the federal government. However, a revised waiver has been conditionally approved to require fewer assessments at each grade level this year, per the below schedule. In addition, the ELA and math assessments have been shortened and will take less time to complete this year.
- Grade 3: ELA
- Grade 4: Math
- Grade 5: Science
- Grade 6: ELA
- Grade 7: ELA and Math
- Grade 8: Math and Science
- Grade 11: ELA and Math
- ELA and/or math (grades 3, 4, 6–8 and 11): submit the state opt-out form to your child’s school. The form is available on the State Assessments page of the District website.
- Science (grades 5 and 8 only): submit a written request for exemption to your child’s school (email or US mail).
