Character Word of the Month: Integrity
Integrity is moral wholeness, which is demonstrated by consistency of thoughts, words and deeds (walking the walk). As parents, we need to prepare teens for situations in which they will be pressured to abandon their beliefs in order to please themselves or their peers. Having integrity means maintaining our highest values even when faced with criticism or embarrassment. It is the willingness to do the right thing even when it costs more than you want to pay.
Another component of integrity is having the moral courage to accept failure or defeat without losing hope. Disappointment is part of life. How we handle it says a lot about our integrity.
Thankful for...

Getting Active
Middle Years Newletter
Attendance FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out)
Attendance is an important indicator of student success. But what happens when a child missing a day (or a few)?
Students become anxious about what material or concepts they are missing out on and how will they catch up? While there are attendance requirements for every school, we encourage parents to make sure students are here as much as possible to avoid situations where students feel like they are missing out or not "getting it" due to absences.
Flu and cold season is hard and we encourage all parents to try and schedule appointments or trips in a way that is least disruptive to the school day (and yes, we know its not always possible!)
Organization: Mission Impossible?
With the new year comes new goals...help your middle school student get 2020 off on the right foot by helping them get organized for 2nd semester:
- Take time to discuss getting organized and use specific examples of what that should look like
- Make sure to have your child help
- Emphasize using their planner - it's a great tool!
- Get the right materials for the job
- Don't critize
- Get a clean start - recycle what you don't need
- Develop an evening routine when school resumes
- If all else fails, call for reinforcements! Your child's teachers or counselor is a great place to start
Every grade level does things a bit differently to meet their academic needs. Contact your child's teachers for suggestions.
