From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Over the last three days, I have spent a large amount of my time dealing with COVID related issues within our school. As the principal, I want nothing more than to have in-person learning for all students at St. John’s. I truly believe this is the best way for students to learn.
Unfortunately, we have had four students or staff members test positive for COVID-19 this week, and I realize that some changes need to be made to keep our students safe and in school. For the protection of our students and staff, starting tomorrow Thursday September, 16th, all students, staff and visitors at St. John’s will be required to wear a mask. I feel this is the best solution to keep our students in our building as much as possible moving forward.
We are making a few other changes that will help as well. As a staff we are working hard to ensure that student desks are at least three feet apart at all times. By mandating masks, this would allow us to drastically reduce the number of students who are quarantined due to an exposure. I have also been working with the cafeteria staff to create a better seating arrangement that will allow for more social distancing. While these fixes will not eliminate COVID exposures, the hope is to limit the number of students in quarantine.
A couple of key things to remember:
If anyone in your household is getting tested, contemplating getting tested, or waiting COVID test results, please keep all of your children at home until the test results are back.
If your child is experiencing multiple symptoms, please keep them home until they are symptom free for 24 hours.
We are all in this together! I will continue to evaluate the situation to determine if and when we may be able to remove the mask requirement. Thank you for your understanding as to why this is necessary for the safety of our students and allow them to continue their in-person learning.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 513-385-7970 or cweinheimer@stjohnsdrschool.org.
