Violet Views December 2018
HOME OF THE SUPERVIOLETS
Principal's Message
We hope that all of our families had an unforgettable Thanksgiving Holiday! In December, days always seem to fly by quickly, so we have much work to do in a short period of time. We will begin our winter benchmark assessments December 3-14, so we can know for certain what progress our students have made over the first semester. The data that we receive from our benchmark assessments also provides an opportunity for teachers to plan for the second semester to ensure that we are individualizing student learning.
As winter approaches, please remember to send students with coats, hats, and
gloves, as the weather is always unpredictable. We do send students outside to play during recess, as long as the wind chill is above 25 degrees, to assure that students get plenty of physical activity.
We would like to send out well wishes to all of our families over the holiday season and in the New Year!
Sincerely,
Dee Copas

December Toy Drives
- Violet Township Drive: December 3-7 Donate a new, unwrapped toy or gift card for our own PLSD families in need. The donation box is located in the main office.
- YMCA Van Buren Shelter Drive: December 10-14 Help make a child's Christmas merry and bright by donating a new toy! The Van Buren Shelter is the largest homeless shelter in Central Ohio and is currently at capacity with women and children. The donation box will be located in the front hallway.
YMCA Challenge
Violet Elementary is partnering with the YMCA this school year to give back to our community. At the beginning of the year, the YMCA visited our students and offered them a challenge. If they demonstrate kind, helpful, and caring behaviors throughout the year, the YMCA will provide a day of fun and inflatables in the spring. We are taking this challenge seriously. The YMCA operates the largest homeless shelter in central Ohio; The Van Buren Shelter. The Van Buren Shelter is currently at capacity and has many needs. The YMCA has done many things for Violet; such as providing inflatables for the walk-a-thon rewards, donating a week of camp for our end of year Finish Strong campaign, and providing excellent care in the before and after school Y-Club. We are excited to give back to the YMCA and residents of the Van Buren Shelter.
Families will have their first opportunity to help during the Barnes and Noble Bookfair. We will have a bin for you to donate a book that will be given to the children living at the Van Buren Shelter. In addition to the toy drive in December we will also have:
- January Diaper Drive - Diapers size 3 and up, and wipes
- March Sock/Underwear/Book Drive - School aged garment sizes and children's books
- May Hygiene Drive - Deodorant and toothbrushes
