Every Friday Note

One Month Down!

It is hard to believe we have completed our first month of school already! It has definitely been an action packed month to say the least.

As we gear up for the weekend, the news is full of reminders of the horrors of 9/11/2001. Although 20 years have passed, the memories of that day are like it was yesterday. We see and hear about all of the evil things in the world on the news, radio, and internet. People who threaten us are still around. However, so is God and His immense love for us. Although that day reminds us of all of the evil in the world, never forget how much God loves each and every one of us and that even through the darkest storms, God will provide a way for us.

General Updates:

  • This week the students began taking the fall version of the NWEA test. There is a test for ELA and a test for Math.
  • Our school accreditation was very successful. We received a lot of positive feedback from the team. Thank you to everyone who made the day a success and for all of your support of Saint Lawrence Catholic School!
  • School picture day is Thursday September 23rd.
  • Vision and Hearing Screening tests will be taking place at our school on Friday September 17th for grades 1, 3, 5, 8 (Vision) and 1, 4, 7 (Hearing).

The pre-K program has hosted this event several times in the past, this year we are expanding it to grades pre-K thru 4. This will take place from 6:45am-7:25am in the cafeteria next Thursday September 16th. Come enjoy a donut with your child before school starts!

St. Lawrence Fall Trash Bag Fundraiser Friday Sept 10th - Tues Sept 14th

It is time again for our fall fundraiser. Each year our Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) holds fundraisers to earn money for our school. In the fall we ask families to buy and sell trash bags. We offer 3 different sizes, white for kitchen trash bags, yellow for your leaves and blue is our 55 gallon size. Each roll is $10 This is the last time for the $10 price, as the cost will go up in the spring. So get your rolls now while they are still at this low price! Order forms and more information will come home with your student this Friday September 10th. We are asking that order and money be turned back in Tuesday Sept 14th. Please contact Megan Smith (mmoloney4@yahoo.com or 317-910-7216) with any questions.

The Fall Festival is right around the corner! It is the weekend of September 24-26. This is a great opportunity to support the parish and enjoy fellowship with both the parish and neighborhood communities. We hope to see you all there!

On that note, be on the lookout in the coming week about our Festival drop off and pick up procedures at the school.

Attendance Policy

Our school day starts at 7:25 am and ends at 3:15 pm. During this time, instruction is taking place. Tardiness and early pick up, although at times necessary, interfere with the required instruction time for your child. Consistent tardiness or early departure greatly hinders your child's ability to learn and become proficient in the required standards set forth by the state of Indiana. Please be supportive of our family handbook and honor the arrival and pick up times to ensure that your child receives the very best education possible.

A note to this. If you are late arriving on a Wednesday or Friday, which are our scheduled school mass days, please take your child to the church prior to 9:15 am.

St. Lawrence Cub Scouts

Our next meeting is Monday September 13th at 7:00pm in the cafeteria. Boys and Girls grades K-5 are welcome to join our Pack anytime during the school year. Call or text Megan Smith with any questions at 317-910-7216.

St. Lawrence Boy Scouts

Any boys grades 6-8 interested in joining the Boy Scout Troop at St. Lawrence can contact Steve St. Peters at stevestpeters@gmail.com. Meetings are typically 7:00 pm Wednesday nights in the cafeteria.

Curricular Material Assistance Form

Earlier this week, a green form was sent home with your child that needs to be returned. This allows for textbook rental assistance. Please be sure that you return it as soon as possible.

Summer Pandemic EBT

Last year, many families received extra money from the government. There is a separate deposit for the summer that should be loaded to your account already. A parent pointed this out to me, as I am still learning many of these things, and I am so thankful that they did! Here is information from the state website.

Summer P-EBT is for all students determined eligible to receive free and reduced meals for the 2020-2021 school year. This issuance is for ALL National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program students and ALL students that attend a Community Eligibility Provision school. Students and their schools do not need to participate in a summer school program to receive this benefit.

Benefits will be loaded to existing P-EBT cards for each eligible child. A new P-EBT card will be issued to students that have not previously received any type of P-EBT benefit.

Thank you Sarah Stephens for pointing this out to us. In her research, she wanted me to share this with you. Here is a link with some information: https://www.in.gov/fssa/dfr/dfr-policy-changes-and-actions/pandemic-ebt/

Quite a ways down on that page there is a place to click on if you need to change your mailing address or request a replacement card. Hopefully, you will find what you need and will be pleasantly surprised!

Covid 19 Updates

In an attempt to provide even more transparency about how the school is interacting with Covid-19 in the school, I will start to include numbers school wide for the past week. I will continue to send communication through Jupiter as I have done all along as it pertains to your child and their class. However, this will be a general count for the entire school. I will only include the numbers of cases that apply to our students or quarantine information based on exposure from the school. For example, if a student is on quarantine because a family member, or a person outside of the school, identified them as a close contact, that information will not be offered. If a student is on quarantine based on exposure to a fellow student or teacher at St. Lawrence who has tested positive, that will be included.

For the week of September 4 - September 10:

Positive Results: 1

Quarantined students: 0

The governor passed an executive order stating that close contacts who have been exposed to a positive Covid-19 case at school will only need to quarantine if they are experiencing symptoms.
