Shreya Somayajula Named Presidential Scholar
U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona announced the selection of Shreya Somayaja as a 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar. Somayajula is one of 161 outstanding American high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, technical expertise, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community.
“The 2021 Presidential Scholars represent extraordinary achievements for our extraordinary times,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “I am delighted to join President Biden in saluting these outstanding young people for their achievements, service, character and continued pursuit of excellence. Their examples make me proud and hopeful about the future. Honoring them can remind us all of the great potential in each new generation and renew our commitment to helping them achieve their dreams.”
The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. Since 1983, each U.S. Presidential Scholar has been offered the opportunity to name his or her most influential teacher. Each distinguished teacher is honored with a personal letter from the Secretary of Education. The teacher chosen for recognition by Somayajula was Melanie Stender of Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, Virginia.

New Harassment and Intimidation Form
At Stone Bridge, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment in which every student feels included, valued, and affirmed. To help us in achieving that goal, LCPS has created an opportunity for students to anonymously share their stories of bias experienced within LCPS. A bias incident is an act of discrimination, harassment, or intimidation directed against any person or group that appears to be intentional and motivated by prejudice or bias. These anonymous stories will be used at the Share, Speak Up, Speak Out sessions with Student Equity Ambassadors, as well as inform next steps for professional learning and support for school staff. The direct link for the form was shared with students in an email today.
Information shared on this form will not necessarily be investigated by Stone Bridge staff, unless students provide their name and ask for follow-up. We encourage all of our students to still report these incidents to a trusted staff member or administrator so that we can investigate and provide appropriate interventions or disciplinary action. Please reach out to any member of the administrative team to discuss any concerns you might have.
AP Exams
AP exams are starting next week following the schedule below. Note that some exams will be in school and some at home, following guidelines from the College Board. Students should reach out to their AP teacher for more specific directions about individual tests or the School Counseling office at 571-252-2214 for general questions about AP exams this year. Students taking an AP exam will have a excused absence that day from all classes.
