SPORTS PHYSICALS!

INEWS UPDATE!

All athletes are required to have a Sport's Physical annually in order to participate. FREE physicals will be hosted at ORHS on Saturday, June 20th, from 1 - 4.

HAPPY SUMMER!

The ORHS Staff wishes everyone a restful, SAFE, and happy summer. Our plan is to send the next iNews issue on July 6th with beginning of school news. If there is important information to share regarding the start of school or changes which might occur due to COVID-19, this information will come from the district level. ORHS will tailor subsequent communication as to how it impacts the high school. Thank you for sharing your kids with us for another year!

YEARBOOKS AND DIPLOMAS!

Parents, if yearbooks and/or diplomas were not picked up last week, we are allowing items to be picked up Monday - Friday from 9 - 3. Diplomas are locked up; therefore, please call Mrs. Rhinehart at 425-9604 to schedule a time. Be reminded, all accounts and ORHS property must be settled in order to receive your diploma.

Yearbooks can be retrieved during the same hours. We have SOLD OUT of this year's yearbook; therefore, there are no more available except those pre-purchased.

CLASS OF 2020 PARENTS

With the "rollover" of Skyward for the 2020-2021 school year, this will be our final iNews to the Class of 2020 families! It will not be necessary to request removal from this list as it will happen automatically. Any information needing to be specifically communicated to the Class of 2020 will be posted on the ORHS Class of 2020 Facebook page! So long, 2020's, and don't forget - Once a Wildcat ALWAYS a Wildcat!

IMPORTANT - ACTION REQUIRED FOR PARENTS OF 2021 - 2024 STUDENTS!

With the uncertainty regarding how "school will look" as we continue through the COVID pandemic, it is more important than ever to take care of signing the computer permission forms! The Technology User Agreement for the 2020-2021 school year is now LIVE in the Family Skyward account - NOT THE STUDENT account. There are three items which need to be checked and the date added to complete. A step-by-step instructional is below. Should you have problems, please contact Stephanie Thompson sathompson@ortn.edu or Carrie Harvey charvey@ortn.edu for assistance.

Last Friday is the last time we will send an "all school" Skyalert regarding this task. Next Friday, families with signed forms will be removed from the list!

MISSING COMPUTERS, TEXTBOOKS, CALCULATORS....

Families, we are still missing more than 100 computers, calculators and countless textbooks and library books. We are VERY appreciative of everything returned up to this point. If you find these items in your homes, please return them as soon as possible. Phone calls regarding computers and calculators will begin this week. If you are keeping your computer or calculator for summer school, please send Mrs. Thompson a quick email or text! sathompson@ortn.edu or 865-304-3220. Please include your name, grade and the item in the text!

FIRST WINNER OF THE SUMMER READING GIFT CARD!

Congratulations to Elizabeth Lancaster, our first Summer Reading Winner of a $25.00 gift card to Amazon! Elizabeth read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

COLLEGE BOARD - AP QUESTIONS!

College Board will be sending a list this week of students who took AP exams. Once we receive this list, we will be able to begin to reconcile payments with exams taken. We are hopeful that we will be able to begin processing refunds later this week. Mr. Foust will be reaching out to those who took the exam but have not paid the full balance and this payment will be due. For those who paid either a deposit or full amount but did not take the exam, we will begin issuing refunds. Many of you have reached out to let Mr. Foust know that you were not going to take the exam or did not take the exam. You do NOT have to contact Mr. Foust to get a refund. If the exam was not accessed, we will automatically issue a refund. If you do not receive your refund in the mail within two weeks, please reach out to Mr. Foust at djfoust@ortn.edu for further assistance

REPORT CARDS MAILED LAST WEEK!

Watch your mailbox! Report cards are coming!

IMPORTANT TNPROMISE INFORMATION!

Due to current conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and out of an abundance of caution the Tennessee Higher Education Commission/Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (THEC/TSAC) has made the decision to waive the July 1 community service requirement. A Tennessee Promise student enrolling at an eligible institution for the fall 2020 term will not be required to complete and submit community service to maintain eligibility.

THEC/TSAC will continue to monitor the impact from COVID-19 on our state to determine any additional accommodations which may become necessary in the fall semester and beyond.

If you have questions regarding this decision, please let me know or you may contact tn.promise@tn.gov.

RSCC - MIDDLE COLLEGE GRADUATION PLANS!

The college has announced that plans are being made to hold our graduation ceremonies Saturday, July 25. Roane State will be sending an email out this coming Tuesday, May 26 on this development. The specific details are being, and will continue to be, worked out as we determine the number of students who wish to attend and the number of guest allowed according to CDC and TBR guidelines.

For Middle College graduates, we will participate as a group in the 2:00 service. If this arrangement should change, we will adjust accordingly as a group. Please keep this in mind as you submit if you plan to participate in the ceremony.

CONGRATULATIONS CADET THORNBURGH!

Chief Nicholls would like to congratulate Christopher Thornburgh for his selection as the ORHS NJROTC Cadet of the Year.

SUMMER READING - LOOKIN' A LITTLE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR!

Oak Ridge High School will not be requiring students to complete a traditional summer reading assignment for the upcoming summer break. We feel under the present conditions the task would be too burdensome and the logistics too difficult to overcome. Instead, this year, we are posting to the school’s website a list of recommended readings for students in order to provide options for continued learning and to mitigate potential losses in reading skills over the summer. The list includes selected works from different disciplines and departments at the high school for students who might be interested in science, math, technology, history, social science, and classic literature. There is a mix of all nonfiction and fiction genres, and the selections range from high-interest contemporary works to traditional, canonical texts. Although we have made every effort to consider content and subject matter in order to avoid sensitive topics, controversial issues, or mature subject matter, parents or guardians are ultimately the best judges of what is suitable for their students. Therefore, we strongly suggest that parents or guardians evaluate each selected text to determine whether a work is appropriate for their students. The list also identifies if and where a text may be available online in a free eBook or audiobook format. We hope that students enjoy the works we have selected, and if there are any questions, please contact Michael Feuer, Oak Ridge High School Department of English Coordinator: mfeuer@ortn.edu. More information about the suggested summer reading list will be available on the Oak Ridge High School website
