Attention Parents of Advanced Placement (AP) students:
The registration for AP Exams, that will happen in May, is happening now. IF your student is in an AP Class, they need you to fill out an OSPI Free/Reduced Verification Form. This only needs to be done once for a student, regardless of the number of AP classes they may/may not be taking.
If you have any questions, please contact Joe Phipps at JosephP@spokaneschools.org.
We are excited for your students to show off what they have learned in their AP classes in May.

Connect Cards for high school STA bus riders
SPS Connect Cards will be distributed to eligible students who reside outside the 1.5-mile walk-zone radius at their high school before Sept. 30. Students residing within the 1.5-mile walk-zone radius will need to register for their “Rider’s License” STA Connect card on the STA website. STA will begin to mail the “Rider’s License” STA Connect cards on September 30.
If families are unable to acquire the "Rider's License" STA Connect Card before Oct. 1, STA has agreed to provide a two-week grace period. We encourage families to apply for one as soon as possible.
The online application is currently the only option for students residing within the 1.5 mile walk-radius to sign-up for their “Rider’s License” STA Connect Card. The “Rider’s License” STA Connect card requires students to upload a photo of an ID card (student ID is an option) and a current photo. Families can use the PowerSchool photo (no selfies). In-person registrations will available after October 1st. .
Please have families reach out only to the SPS Hotline at 509-354-5970 for all STA and SPS transportation questions.
Congrats Coach Belote
Congratulations to John R. Rogers' esports coach Taylor Belote on receiving the Scholastic Fellows Grant from the North American Scholastic Esports Federation. Through this grant Coach Belote will be able to grow his skills as an esports coach and eventually mentor other schools/coaches as they work to get their programs off the ground. Nice work Coach Belote!!!

Global Diversity Awareness Month
This announcement is brought to you by Amnesty International! October is Global Diversity Awareness Month. For each week of October, we will be teaching a special word or phrase in a language many students speak at Rogers. This week our phrase is "Como estas.". Como estas means how are you in Spanish.
The members of Amnesty International would like to invite students at Rogers to join their club. Amnesty International is a global group which focuses on human rights and providing justice to marginalized communities. At Rogers, Amnesty International meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:00 in Mrs. Schafer's room (B268). Join us to learn about the Potluck we are planning.
If you have any questions about the club, please reach out to Mrs. Schafer or Ms. Casto.

Late Start Mondays
REMINDER: This year, SPS students* will begin their school day 1 hour later every Monday on the following start schedule:
• High Schools and Libby Center: 9 a.m.
• Middle Schools: 10 a.m.
• Elementary Schools: 9:30 a.m.
*NEWTech Prep and TEC at Bryant students will attend on a regular schedule.
Breakfast will be available 30 minutes prior to Monday’s start time. Yellow buses will pick up students 1 hour later. Spokane Transit bus riders, visit spokanetransit.com/spsconnect for routes and timetables.
The weekly late start is part of a new 3-year collective bargaining agreement that allows teachers time to work with colleagues around student learning and supports. Providing structured time within the workday for teachers and other certificated staff to collaborate is an educational best practice consistent with other area school districts. Having a late start Monday consistently scheduled every week allows families to plan for the whole school year. Visit spokaneschools.org/calendar for a full calendar.
