Newsletter - Term 1 Week 2

Friday, 17th February 2023

From the Principal

Kia ora koutou,

Swimming Carnival

Next week (Thursday, 23 February) we are holding our swimming carnival over at the Otautau Pool. We will begin at 9.30am and it will run into the afternoon. We will send home next week a programme of events with the order of races etc. It has been great to see the improvements that the students have been making over the past two weeks.

'Get to Know You' Conferences

Thank you to all those parents who came and met with your child's class teacher. The feedback I have heard has been very positive which is great to see.

Homework Policy

Some parents may have asked about homework expectations during the 'Get to Know You' Conferences. I have included below the Homework policy:

We encourage our students to be active outside school hours, and our parents to help their children by:

  • encouraging reading for pleasure and information
  • listening to them talk about things that interest them
  • engaging with what they're doing at school
  • encouraging them to be physically active
  • giving them the opportunity to help at home

This policy is up for review in Term 4, 2023 and you will have the opportunity to give feedback through SchoolDocs then.

Nga mihi,

Simon Bell

What an amazing exciting week! Another 4 days of swimming lessons preparing for our swimming carnival on Thursday as well as 2 sessions in the Life Education ‘Harold’ bus. The Tamariki learnt about their identity and what makes them unique.

The Tree House

This week The Tree-House visited Harold as part of the ‘Our Story’ inquiry. We found out we are all V.I.P’s because we have many indvidual characteristics that make us unique. We have also continued to explore the special features of our names. Everybody has a name, some are different and some the same. Some are short, some are long. All are right, none are wrong. Our names make us special and unique.
