FBLA Students going to State Competition
FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America, club members competed in the district FBLA competition last week. Students competed with over forty other schools. PHS has four students that have qualified for state competition. Congratulations to Valerie Lawrence, Hannah Jaeger, Ian Terwilliger, and Caitlyn Christenson. Students compete in several categories including accounting, business law, and personal finance. PHS had a total of ten students who finished in the top ten in their categories. Great job, Tigers!
IT'S NATIONAL FFA WEEK! WHAT IS FFA?
FFA is a dynamic youth organization within agriculture education that prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth and career success. FFA was created in 1928 as the Future Farmers of America; however, the name was changed to the National FFA Organization in 1988 to reflect the growing diversity of agriculture. Today, more than 610,000 student members are engaged in a wide range of agriculture education activities, leading to over 300 career opportunities in the agriculture science, food, fiver and natural resources industry. Student success remains the primary mission of the FFA.
Students interested in participating in FFA must be enrolled in an agriculture education class on the high school level.

In honor of National FFA week, there is a great article titled "I Blame FFA" that best explains the values of FFA, http://farmprogress.com/blogs-i-blame-ffa-changes-rural-youth-8182.

Date: Monday, February 29, 2016 @ 6:00pm
Where: Plattsburg High School Performing Arts Center
WHAT: There will be an informational presentation for parents and students in 8th-11th grade to help you understand high school graduation requirements, learn more about scheduling high school courses, personal plans of study, dual credit courses, and recommendations for college bound student information. PHS counselor, Sandi Ogden and PHS principal, Ryan Beatty, will be available to answer questions. This is a great opportunity to be proactive and ensure your child is successful in high school and beyond!
PTA TO HOST A READING-RAISER!
A Reading-Raiser is like a jog-a-thon, except your child will be reading books instead of running laps, and earning pledges based on how much they read. Everything is tracked online, which makes inviting sponsors and logging reading much easier!
Here are two videos that explain how to participate in the Reading-Raiser:
- How to authorize your child's Reading-Raiser account: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7hoPff0fjI
- How to become a sponsor and invite more sponsors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRQi2f8Rj5o
Your child will receive a private online account at https://www.whooosreading.org/ where he/she will log reading. Parent and student instructions on how to use the website have been sent home. Your child will not be able to invite any sponsors without your authorization. Follow this link to view instructions on how to use your parent account: https://www.whooosreading.org/guides/parent?d=9541.
IMPORTANT: Whooo's Reading works best if you use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
Unlike other fundraisers where we keep only 40-60% of each donation, our school keeps 80% of each donation using this program. We are really excited to promote reading and help our school raise the necessary money for our ongoing needs.
