Colt Corner
Colleyville Middle School
August 31, 2020
Colts,
As I mentioned in Friday's newsletter, this special edition Colt Corner provides detailed information regarding September 8th in person-learning/remote learning. The presentation below lays out details of what next Tuesday and beyond will look like. The slide presentation includes planning items like drop off times, new bell schedule to accommodate both in-person and remote learning, lunch information (including optional breakfast/lunch table sign-up), and much more. The virtual Colt Camp-like videos are forthcoming, which will give our returning and new Colts important logistical information on the layout as they navigate their first day on campus. There will be additional drop off/pick up videos to assist with the day-to-day procedures for new and returning parents, etc. That information and more will follow later this week. There will be a virtual coffee with me tomorrow via our PTA Webex at 8:45am. If you would like to join us, the information to join the Webex can be found below under the Repeated Information section and also the weekly newsletter released the past few Sundays. I hope you have a great week ahead!

Changing Instructional Model
Changing Instructional Model
As a reminder, parents are able to switch from in-person to remote learning at any point during the school year. In order to make this change, please contact the campus counselor.
For families that are wishing to change from remote to in-person learning, that may only be done at the end of a grading period. The process for changing to in-person learning requires parents to complete a Google form that will be shared by your child’s campus prior to the end of the nine-week grading period. Below is a schedule of when the form will become available, when the form must be received by the campus, and when the change will go into effect:
To change after the first nine weeks, parents must complete the form between September 20 and October 5. Your student would begin receiving in-person instruction on October 19.
To change after the second nine weeks, parents must complete the form between November 15 and December 7. Your student would begin receiving in-person instruction on January 6.
To change after the third nine weeks, parents must complete the form between February 14 and March 1. Your student would begin receiving in-person instruction on March 22.
If you have any questions regarding the timing of when parents may change the instructional model selected, or the associated process, please contact the campus counselor.
Picture Days
Students will have their school pictures taken for your order consideration, yearbook, and student ID badges on September 10th and 11th. If your student is a virtual learner, they will be able to take their picture on September 11th in the afternoon. In working with our photo company, details will be released in this weeks parent newsletter for the exact time window to drive up, quickly drop off, safely take their picture, and drive off in a short period of time.
A face mask will be required to enter the designated location described in this week's newsletter.
The students will receive their first student ID free. There will be a $5 charge assessed for any lost or damaged ID.
Counselor Corner For The Week Of August 31 - September 1
As many of you know, every fall the counseling teams at each secondary school present an evidence-based suicide prevention curriculum called S.O.S. to all students, grades 6-12.
Due to our unusual circumstances this year, we have decided to postpone the S.O.S. presentations, preferring to wait until we can share this critical information in-person.
We do want to share with you how our counselors are continuing to support our students during this time. Counselors are available for students and parents via Webex and phone. Each campus has a form available on their website to request to meet with a counselor. Additionally, counselors are reaching out to students to check in on them and will continue to do so throughout the year. Counselors are prepared to support students both remotely and in person. For students who are returning to school in person, counselors are accessible by going directly to the counseling office, or by requesting an appointment. For students who will continue with remote learning, counselors are accessible by phone or Webex.
In addition to the support provided by our counselors, the counseling page on the GCISD webpage has resources that are available for parents on a variety of topics.
CMS Counselors are ready to see our returning Colts and to meet our new Colts! Counselors are available for student check-in through virtual meetings now and and will also offer in-person sessions after Sept. 8th. Students can contact their counselor on our Request to See Counselor Form.

Character Strong
Our district has adopted Character Strong as a way to support the social/emotional wellbeing and character development of our students. You can learn more about this program on their website: https://www.characterstrong.com/. Teachers have already been supporting students’ social emotional wellness through their class lessons with Character Strong. As we build a strong connection with our community to support social emotional wellness, we will continue to share out the Family Character Dares for a great way to extend it into your home. Here is the latest!

The required immunizations are the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines. Please email the nurse, Sophia Martin, sophia.martin@gcisd.net, to turn in any records.
