School Closure Newsletter
Lynnville-Sully Schools - March 31, 2020
Message from Shane Ehresman, Superintendent
Lynnville-Sully Families,
Each day, new information is provided to school leaders by the Iowa Department of Education, the Governor’s office, public health, and state educational groups. We are hopeful a public announcement about the future of the school year will be released by Governor Reynolds this week. As we learn new information, communication will be distributed to Lynnville-Sully families.
At this time, school is scheduled to resume on Monday, April 13, 2020. All school activities/practices between March 16 and April 12 have been canceled or postponed.
“Grab and Go” Free Student Meals: Cathy Fraker, L-S Lunch Secretary, and Shelley Vander Molen, L-S Food Service Director, worked with the Iowa Department of Education to request approval offering “Grab and Go” free meals to students as well as meal preparation for student food delivery. The school district received approval this weekend to provide free meals to children between the ages of 0 and 18.
We strongly encourage all families to complete a Google form each week as accurate numbers help us plan and prepare meals. Google meal weekly request forms will be emailed to families by Cathy Fraker. Link to Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxJdMtv-RAJVKbpA1uy2CPf6JXwUs3E2LNZOKRdn2HiCuoAw/viewform

Health Message from Justine Wyma, School Nurse
Lynnville-Sully Families,
It has been three weeks since the first case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in Iowa. As of March 30, 2020, Iowa has over 400 confirmed cases. As we think about life before spring break, I want to remind everyone that there were many illnesses peculating in our district affecting numerous families, such as strep throat, Influenza A & B, and a GI flu bug with high fevers and varied symptoms. The illnesses have slowed considerably providing proof how social distancing does limit the spread of illness.
COVID-19 has affected thousands with extreme levels of illness, from a sniffle to death. Both state and federal government leaders implemented clear guidelines to protect all ages of Americans. Experts are optimistic we will return to normal life as soon as we limit the spread of the virus. Our job is to stay home and contact your physician or call 211 for assistance if you develop symptoms.
The CDC continues to emphasize that the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus is to stay home away from others. Contact your physician if you have any symptoms. Below are links to the CDC website for more specific details:
How to protect yourself: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html

Prevent getting sick: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/index.html
I wholeheartedly understand this is the hardest time to self-isolate. I wish we were at school each day and attending track meets cheering our Hawks all evening! We have to stop the spread so we can achieve ‘normal’ again. J
Information guidelines are changing almost daily. I will continue to update our district each week. Please know your local Public Health, Law, EMS, and EMA have been working to ensure residents of Jasper County are safe and prepared. If you have questions, please email me, contact your physician, or call 211 for assistance.
Take care and stay well!
