US Army Specialist Bowe Robert Bergdahl from Sun Valley, Idaho
He was captured by Taliban forces in southeast Afghanistan in June 30th, 2009. After he was captured, the Taliban released three videos showing Bowe in captivity. He was frightened and considered a downcast. He was declared "missing / whereabouts unknown"
The Deal
The Taliban wanted $1 million dollars and release of 21 Afghan prisoners (who are believed to be at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba) and Aafia Siddiqui in the exchange for the release of Bowe. They threatened to execute Bowe if siddiqui was not released.
Escape Attempt
He is believed to be the only American soldier to be held in captivity by the Taliban. About 3 months later, he make a daring attempt for freedom. It was one night in late August or early September, He jumped out from a first floor window of a mud-brick house. He was found later in a ditch covered in leaves. He was brought back into captivity soon after.
