GMS Weekly News and Notes
Weekly Updates
It is suddenly mid-October, and we have approximately one month remaining in the first marking term. Progress reports have been posted on Plus Portal and can be reviewed at any convenient time. I want to emphasize that progress reports are merely a snapshot of progress and not a final assessment of anything. There are still plenty of points to be earned! I encourage parents and guardians to review progress reports with your children if you have not yet had the chance to do so. If your child is struggling in one or more classes, I encourage you to reach out to our teachers and counselors for ideas about strategies that might support better outcomes. Likewise, it is an opportune time to review at-home schedules to see if any adjustments should be made to homework or study routines. Continuous conversations among families, students, and school staff generally create the conditions for students to thrive, and we look forward to solidifying these important partnerships.
Important reminder: Friday, October 21st will be an early release day for students. Dismissal will occur at 11:05.
Morning drop-off note: Parents and guardians should not drop students off in the parking lot in the morning. It creates a potentially dangerous situation as exiting traffic is routed through the lot. Students may be dropped off anywhere along the sidewalk which is adjacent to the school itself.
GMS Website Update: All previous editions of the GMS News and Notes are now viewable in the "Principal's Corner" section of the GMS website.
This Week's Academic Spotlight
7th grade students in Mrs. Stuart & Mrs. Winchell's class learned about the environmental impact of the fashion industry on our Earth's Land, Air, & Water Resources. Student "upcycled" an old t-shirt giving it a new life as a dog toy or backpack instead of heading off to a landfill to decompose!

Galvin Goes Pink- Thursday, October 27th
GMS will be going pink for breast cancer awareness. Pink ribbons will be sold in the main lobby before school for $1. All proceeds benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

GMS CAPT Corner
THANK YOU from the Galvin CAPT. Our annual "FIT4FUND$" fundraiser was a huge success raising $42,000! A special thanks to all the students and families who collected donations. And a huge shout out and thank you to the faculty, for their support in running the events of the day. Due to the funds raised CAPT will be able to support student programming, guest speakers, offset field trip cost, teacher appreciation and other enrichment opportunities for all grades! It was great to see the smiles on the students’ faces throughout the day! CAPT will wrap up this fun event with raffle prizes and homework passes being announced and distributed during lunch periods later in the month!
At this time all payments have been processed. If you don't see your check cashed etc, please check in with your students. In June about 10 envelopes "APPEARED" to be found from last year fund raiser while cleaning out bags, etc.!!!
Please visit the GMS CAPT Website which has updates on special programs and updated meeting minutes.
Next GMS CAPT Meeting: Monday, November 7th at 6:30PM in the GMS library. All are welcome.
