Words Can Hurt...
Today we live in a world where we can change lives with the simple click of a button; and not always in a good way. Text messaging, game rooms, and even online discussion boards are being polluted with hurtful and angry words typed and sent by anonymous individuals who usually wouldn't say such harmful words in person. Cyber bullying is indeed real, and causing deadly harm to the children in our society daily. Turning a blind eye and detaching ourselves from the situation only makes matter worst. It is our job as human beings to educate and protect one another from such treachery.
What should you do when someone uses mean or scary language on the Internet?
- Take a deep breath and cool down by counting backwards from 10. This gives you time to think of the absolute best way to handle the situation.
- Alert a trusted adults who can give you advice about what to do.
- Being that most bullies crave attention, simply ignoring them can help diffuse the situation.
- Always keep a copy of your communication with the bully so you'll have proof to show a trusted adult of the harmful things being said to or about you or someone you know.
