A Message from the Principal
Chapman families,
We would like to thank our incredible PTA for providing our staff Chipotle for dinner last Thursday for our first evening of conferences. This is very appreciated by our staff as they can eat dinner prior to meeting with families. Thank you for your continued generosity!
Mrs. Mesenger will be in the office Wednesday evening during conferences to assist anyone who needs help with updating their annual forms or paying student fees. Fees can be paid in office via exact cash or check. Please also visit the Lost & Found while you are in the building located in the front hallway!
As a reminder we ask that if valentines cards are being sent in that there is a card for every student in the classroom. As a building we are also requiring all valentines cards to exclude candy/food attached to them. Teachers have communicated more specific information regarding valentines and your child's classroom.
Students' annual emergency forms must be updated in Powerschool for this school year, and prior year fees must be paid, in order for students to attend spring field trips. Please call the office if you need assistance.
Take a minute to check out updates below from our PTA! The RSVP for the Plaid Party is now available. PTA also extended yearbook cover submission deadline to February 10. If your student is trying out for the talent show on the 22nd be sure to read the details below.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

January School PRIDE Data
At the beginning of the month we focused on reviewing our school-wide PRIDE expectations for each area of Chapman! A focus students have been working on is showing PRIDE in the hallways, transitioning to and from classes, lunch and recess. A strength for our students receiving individual shoutouts this month was for being engaged. A strength for our classes receiving class shoutouts this month was for being respectful. Ms. Rusch's kindergarten class has received the most class shoutouts this year at 31! As a school we're just shy of 1,500 individual student shoutouts for the year! Way to go Chapman students!
Mustang Spotlight: Mrs. Hocevar!
Mrs. Janice Hocevar has spent 18 years at all levels in our District. Mrs. Hocevar has worked with students at Strongsville High School, Drake Elementary, Strongsville Middle School, and is currently the Media Assistant at Chapman Elementary. She and her family have called Strongsville “home” for 27 years - both of her children are proud graduates of SHS. Mrs. Hocevar earned her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma Christian University.
“As a Media Assistant, I have a unique position allowing me to work with the entire student body at Chapman. I have the privilege to watch them grow and change each year. I love when I see students, past and present, outside of school. It makes me feel good when they are excited to see me - it affirms the positive connections I try to make every day with our students,” said Mrs. Hocevar.
“I have a great appreciation for our entire District, having been a part of so many different schools. I have made so many friends and worked with great colleagues along the way! It truly is wonderful to work with such dedicated and hard working teachers and staff. I cannot put a price on the relationships, with both students and staff, that I have made throughout the years with Strongsville City Schools!”
Thank you Mrs. Hocevar for making a positive impact with all of our students at Chapman Elementary! #BeTheDifference

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Our second evening of Parent Teacher Conferences is Wednesday, February 8th. It's not too late to schedule a conference. Please reach out to your child's teacher to see what times they still have available. We value the partnership between home and school and look forward to this opportunity to talk more about your student!
Mrs. Mesenger will be in the office during conferences to assist anyone who needs help with updating their annual forms or paying student fees. Fees can be paid in office via exact cash or check. Please also visit the Lost & Found while you are in the building!
Valentine's Day Guidelines
Homeroom teachers will share specific guidelines with families in regards to passing out valentines cards (names/no names/valentine collection boxes/bags).
As a building we ask that if valentines cards are being sent in that there is a card for every student in the classroom. As a building we are also requiring all valentines cards to exclude candy/food attached to them.
Our PTA volunteers planning our classroom parties will have approved foods/snacks for our students to enjoy. Nurse Penny doesn't have the capacity to check valentines cards to ensure that they follow the approved food/snack guidelines. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Annual Form Update & Student Fees
Reminder that students' annual emergency forms must be updated in Powerschool for this school year, and prior year fees must be paid, in order for students to attend spring field trips. Please call the office if you need assistance.
Snow Play at Recess
Students are permitted to play in the snow during recess if they are dressed appropriately: Water resistant snow boots (no cloth boots), snow pants, water resistant gloves (no cloth gloves) and a hat/headband/earmuffs.
Students will be going outside unless the temperature is below 20 degrees and/or the wind chill is below 10 degrees.
