Reopening of Schools Video Update from Superintendent McClay - Second Semester Plans

Second Semester Schedules

Dr. McClay addressed these in the video. We have provided links to the schedules for easy access below.

  • Elementary TK-5 grades will transition to the second semester without any changes to their class or teacher assignments.
  • Secondary 6-12 grades will transition to the second semester with some changes to their schedules, consistent with the usual modifications secondary students experience at the semester change. We have also created new cohort schedules to coincide with the semester change. This will allow schedules at the secondary level to remain for the 20/21 school year and not change again should TVUSD be authorized to transition to in-person, on-campus learning.

Riverside County and Elementary Waiver Status

On November 16, 2020, we submitted an elementary waiver application to Riverside University Health Systems-Public Health for approval to return elementary students to a hybrid in-person learning model as soon as it is safe to do so. Riverside County remains in the Purple Tier, with county infection rates currently increasing. Therefore, our elementary waiver cannot be processed by County Public Health officials until trending and case rates improve. Last week, we met with the County to review and make recommended adjustments to our application. The revision process does not affect our status in the approval queue, and we continue to await County direction based on our local data trends.

Status of Special Education Learning Centers and Support Hubs

TVUSD will evaluate reinstating the hubs when we return from winter break. The hubs will not reconvene any sooner than January 11, 2021, and will be based on data available at that time.

COVID-19 Report Assistance Process for TVUSD Employees and Students/Families

We have established a COVID-19 reporting process to assist TVUSD employees and families in reporting potential exposures or confirmed positive tests to provide ongoing support during the winter break. The process will begin Monday, December 21. Confidential representatives will be available Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the break to take reports and assist you with any next steps. The process is accessible via the District and all school homepages under the COVID-19 Resources Section. The direct link is https://www.tvusd.k12.ca.us/Page/28287.

COVID-19 Current TVUSD Confirmed Positive Cases - Students and Staff

We have been tracking and publishing on our website for the last month a listing by district facility that identifies the number of positive test cases in TVUSD within the last 14 days. The report is updated and published every Friday.

  • The report only identifies the number of TVUSD reported and confirmed cases through the public health department.
  • TVUSD does not wait to notify close contacts upon an initial report of a positive case. However, we wait for official confirmation from the public health department before listing the dashboard case. This could result in a delay of cases appearing on the dashboard or a discrepancy between the number of notifications received and the actual number of confirmed cases.
  • The report does not include staff or student numbers for those asked to quarantine due to potential exposures.
  • TVUSD's Health Services and Risk Management Departments track the data.

Please review the dashboard as it provides additional information that may answer your questions about the data. The link to review the information is available in the same COVID-19 Resource Section on all school site homepages and is available via the following direct link. https://www.tvusd.k12.ca.us/Page/28224. Due to winter break, the next dashboard update will be provided the week of January 4, 2021.
