A Message from Mrs. Caudill
If you are like me you have been running at 150 miles per hour for the last two months. It is important to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Making sure that our students, staff, and families have the opportunity to completely detach themselves from school—physically and mentally—on the days they’re off is an important part of our commitment to honoring the whole person. (Leader in Me fans call this “Sharpening the Saw.”) In other words, we know our students and staff have lives outside of school, and guess what? We want them to enjoy those healthy, balanced lives!
I plan to take this holiday weekend to pause - enjoy the sunshine, dig in the dirt, listen to the birds chirp and not worry. I hope you do the same
Stay Well. Stay Safe. Stay Hopeful.
Devon Caudill

MEMORIAL DAY ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN
Memorial Day is a time to celebrate and remember. It is a day to honor those who have lost their lives serving in the United States Armed Forces.
WIth no parade or Guernsey ice cream give away this year we might be celebrating Memorial Day in ways that differ from previous years. Here are a few suggestions for how you can celebrate as a family and with your children.
The ideas come from an article written by Amanda Boyarshinov for the website theeducatorsspinonit.com. Read the article in its original form at Memorial Day Activities for Children
TOP 10 WAYS TO CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY WITH KIDS
- Talk to your children about the importance of the day.
- Dress in patriotic colors.
- Read a book about the U.S.A.
- Make a flag themed craft.
- Create a care package for a soldier.
- Have a picnic with your loved ones.
- Consider donating to an organization that serves veterans.
- Participate in a National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 P.M. local time
- Find and attend local events such as parades, presentations, or services.
- Teach your kids a patriotic song such as “You’re A Grand Old Flag” by George M.Cohan or “This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie
BOB Day - Friday, May 29
As most of you know, one of our favorite end-of-the-year traditions is Field Day. This year, with the extended school closure, we’ve decided to host “BOB Day”, an at-home, virtual Field Day! On Friday, May 29th, we are inviting families to participate in the Bobcat Olympic Bash (BOB) and have some fun with different games and challenges at home!
The Google Slides below include a description of the 12 different games and, as you’ll see, most activities include items you already have lying around your house. Choose to complete a few of the activities, a lot, all, or none! Please do whatever is best for your family.
Additionally, there will be a basket of balloons placed near Amerman’s front door on Wednesday, May 27th or Thursday, May 28th (all depends on shipping). So, if you plan on participating in BOB Day, we encourage you to decorate your mailbox with a few balloons! Finally, prior to BOB Day, your child’s classroom teacher will share a Padlet so you can post photos and videos of BOB Day in action!
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Pinkelman at pinkelca@northvilleschools.org.
We hope to have you join in on the BOB Day fun!

Dragon Rider, by Cornelia Funke
This week Mrs. Caudill started reading a new book. The book is Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. Ms. Funke has written several books our upper elementary students may be familiar with including Inkheart and The Thief Lord. The book appeals to all ages, from early elementary to adult. It is a story about friendship, adventure and the true meaning of home.
The story is about Firedrake, Ben and their furry friend, Sorrel, who are in search of the mythical place where dragons can live in peace forever. Along the way, they discover allies in odd places, courage they didn't know they had, and a hidden destiny that changes everything.

May's Focus: Integrity! Habit 8: Find your Voice!
Every month Amerman Focuses on a new theme and Leader in Me Habit of the Month. The focus for the month of April is Integrity and our Habit of the Month is Habit 8: Find Your Voice. Just because we are not at school doesn't mean we can't practice our Leader in Me Habits and our theme of the month.
Find your voice means finding something that you are good at and like doing. You are proud, but do not boast. Instead, you use your expertise to help and inspire others.
