VIKINGS FOR THE WIN!

On 1/7, the Boys Basketball team traveled to Portage for a conference game. The Indians came out strong and by halftime the score was 17-33, Valpo was down by 17. The Vikings came to play in the second half outscoring Portage 23-14. In the final seconds, Connor McCall secured the win by sinking two free throws making the final score 50-47. Breece Walls led the team in points with 13, followed by Blaine Dalton with 11. Mason Jones rounded out the top three with 9 points and 4 rebounds. JV defeated Portage 52-32. Matt Hofer and Alec Platipodis played tough inside and scored 10 and 8 points respectively. Freshman Caden Crowell scored 12 and Michael Ridley had 12 rebounds.

1/8 - Saturday night was no less exciting for our Vikings. Down the entire game to undefeated Penn, the boys rallied in the final three minutes to win the game 74-73. Michael Flynn had an amazing game, sinking two 3 point baskets to change the momentum of the game! Mason Jones led the team in points and rebounds with 22 and 6 respectively. Jack Smiley had 13 points. The JV fell to the Penn Kingsmen 31-39. Matt hofer ed with 8 points and Michael Ridley had 5 rebounds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

1/11 - FR Boys hosted Portage with both the A and B teams winning! Final score for the A team was 52-38. Trent Kimes led with 13 points, with Isaiah Keene and Julian Stokes each adding 10 points. B team final score was 43-35. Thomas Krueger led with 15 points, followed by Trevor Fenters with 10.

1/12 - FR Boys B Basketball defeated Hobart 33-25. Trevor Fenters led the team with14 points followed by Nick Bravo with 10.

GYMNASTICS

1/8 - The Lady Vikings hosted the annual Viking Pairs Dual on Saturday. Logansport, Lake Central, Plymouth and Elkhart all traveled to compete. The Vikings were the tournament champs with 25 points. Lake Central came in second with 15 points followed by Elkhart with 9 points. Below are the top three finishers for the events:


  • Vault - Gabi Grisafi & Rita Piech placed 3rd.
  • Uneven Bars - Gabi Grisafi and Rita Piech placed 1st, Molly Dreher & Olivia Lozano placed 2nd
  • Balance Beam - Gabi Grisafi and Rita Piech placed 1st, Molly Dreher & Olivia Lozano placed 2nd
  • Floor Exercise - Allison Rospond & Chloe Ochman placed 2nd, Molly Dreher & Olivia Lozano placed 3rd
  • All Around - Gabie Grisafi & Rita Piech placed 1st, Molly Dreher & Olivia Lozano placed 3rd

1/13 - The Lady Vikings took on Michigan city at home. Final team score was 110.900 to 66.550, Valpo on top! Below are the individual winners:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

1/8 - The FR girls defeated Kankakee Valley 28-19. Emily Seymour led the team with 10 points followed by Cooper Evans with 6 points.

1/11 - FR girls traveled to Hanover Central and were defeated 15-23. Hannah Higgins was the lead scorer with 7 points.

1/11 - Varsity had a last minute addition to the schedule after Elkhart had to post-pone and took on John Glenn High School in Walkerton, IN. The Lady Vikings won big, 72-39. Kristin Bukata led the team with 20 points followed by Becca Gerdt with 16 and Norah Flynn with 14.

VIKETTES

1/8 - The Vikettes competed in their second ever competition at Crown Point High School. The girls placed 2nd in the AAA Pom. Sullivan Strauss placed 2nd in the Senior Solo and Madalyn Lamb placed 3rd in the Junior Solo.

BOYS & GIRLS SWIM & DIVE

1/8 - The Girls team traveled to Highland invite. The Lady Vikings placed 2nd, outscoring Crown Point, Portage, Highland and Michigan City, only falling to Munster. Below are the highlights of the day:


  • Diving - Lindey Giesler placed 1st and Reagan Williams placed 2nd.
  • 200 Yard Medley Relay - 2nd - Emma Krsak, Andi Grasch, Katherine Padilla &Edie Patterson.
  • 200 Yard Freestyle - 2nd - Edie Patterson
  • 100 Yard Butterfly - 2nd - Katherine Padilla
  • 100 Yard Freestyle - 2nd - Edie Patterson
  • 500 Yard Freestyle - 2nd - Andi Grasch

1/11 - The Boys & Girls teams competed in the Portage Dual Meet. Both came home with a win! Boys final score 122-54 and Girls 126-60. Below are the winners!

1/12 - The Vikings traveled to rival Chesterton to take on the Trojans. Unfortunately, the team was defeated 28-42.
